Ok I'm thinking of buying the Bumfights Video/DVD, has anyone got or seen it? Is it any good and worth buying?
:D

Actually come to think of it neither have i. I think it may be down to them not having the strength to raise their limbs.

Yep. You're right there, i found a contradiction. You said you hadn't seen the video ("you ask has anyone got or seen it?"). Yet you say "but fights like the ones in the video do go down in reality."
Only if you'd seen it would you know what the fights in the video are like.
So ner.
And I don't think they go down in reality to be honest. I ain't seen any fights between "bums" before.
And I didnt say everyone on the street fights, but fights like the ones in the video do go down in reality.
But im sure you will find something that I said to contadict me...

Um I seem to remember you saying "Ok I'm thinking of buying the Bumfights Video/DVD, has anyone got or seen it? Is it any good and worth buying?". Sounds to me like you were thinking of buying it/

Yes... All "bums" get in fights. I'm sure it's only a miniority. Sorry but there's no other name for this apart from "exploitation".

Still should they be given that choice in the first place? I certainly don't think so. I think it's awful to do that. Of course they are going to say "yes". If I hadn't had a proper meal in a few days and someone told me if I had a fight with someone I could have one, sure I'd do it, even if I did feel like a performing monkey.
Just let me point out that i'm not paying for Bumfights, someone is giving it to me for free, so the people who made it wont be getting any money from me. I wouldnt pay for this, because like you said it's wrong. But as I have the oportunity to watch it for free, im going to, then afterwards decide if it's really as bad as some of us think it is.
Even though the stuff on this video are sick, messed up and wrong, it's reality. These people did not do anything that they wouldn't/couldn't do without a camera being there (with the exception of Rufus the stunt bum). This stuff happens, on the streets anything goes down, Bumfights brings this to the attention of the public through a humorous style.
Now I know I to haven't seen it yet, but I have read up a lot about it. The people had the choice to do the stuff or not, and they chose what they got in return. Money, food, clouthes etc are a few of the things mentioned by the creators. If they felt they were being treated unfairly then they could just up and leave.
Well I think that's about it, I had a few more points to make but they sliped my mind. Hopefully after I watch it, I will be able to let you know how bad or eye opening good it is.
I think Goatboy is the only person to actualy have seen it here, maybe he can give some more insight into it...
Take some homeless people, and in exchange for some booze, some cash (how much I have no idea, probably just enough to last a few days) or cigarettes and they perform mad stunts “Jackass” style, or have fights with one another. Meanwhile the producers make lots of money from filming it and selling it to people like you. It just doesn’t seem right. Tramps get cigarettes or some cash, producers get much more cash as people like yourself buy their video. Seems fair. Yet the tramps are the “actors” if you like. It’s like telling an established film start like Bruce Willis, you’ll give him a pint of beer if he beats up another actor Tom Cruise. We’d all pay money to see it, but a pint of beer??!?
How anyone can compare it to “Jackass” I have no idea. Yes the “bums” do similar things to the people in “Jackass”, yet I’ve watched “Jackass”, and I sometimes can find it to be funny, but the fact is, the people that do it ARE the “idiots” that make the show. They are selling themselves doing stupid things. Fair enough. They don’t have to; it’s just how they want to make their money. Yet in “Bumfights” the producers sit back on their butts, doing nothing but filming while “bums” fight each other for such small things that we well off people can get hold of so easily. It seems to me that the producers of “Bumfights” are trying to create a show similar to “Jackass” and hopefully get similar success, however they are making other people do the dirty work for them. Put simply it’s exploitation. Tramps are that desperate to get these things they will do anything for them. I just feel sick about the idea of it. Sure it’s probably funny to watch but I can’t help but feel sick that we allow such a thing to be made.
Okay, maybe these tramps don’t have to do what they do. They are asked by producers, but it seems like they are offering some people who have been out in the desert for a very long time, water in exchange for them to do what you tell them. It’s taking people in a situation where they are very desperate, and exploiting them in exchange for what they need to live. If they can get cigarettes, some money or alcohol for free, sure people in their situation are going to do it.
I don’t care if I’m the only one who feels this way, it just feels morally wrong to me. I don’t care if you think it’s funny. I’m just expressing a viewpoint here. And as I said, I’ve only seen clips, but from what I’ve heard it just doesn’t sound right for me to enjoy it. I just keep asking myself the same question. How can something this degrading, despicable and low be legal?
I just hope you feel just as “wooo!” when you watch it knowing that what you are watching is a modern day equivalent of the "slave trade".
How long roughly does each fight last?
In a sick "How could they" kind of way.
See Rufus the stunt-bum headram windows and cars in traffic jams.
See crack-*****s fight for $
Of course it's all terribly shocking and stuff.
But I warn you, some of the fights are really, really nasty and made me wince and forward through a couple.
It's exactly what is says:
Hobos punching each other a lot.
