On Shenmue 2 where can I practice moves on my own, is the only place where you have to spar with that guy or is there another place whre you can train on my own? Also, is it possible to earn money fighting, if so where? Thanks.

Firsty, welcome to SR forums!

Its a very hard move to do, basically its all about knowing where your opponent is going to move next. In Kowloon there is a street fight where you have to hit this guy once to take the bout, he blocks all the time but as soon as he moves you have to strike, this is where I practiced the move until I got the hang of it.

If you can do the move in the room with the blind musician then you can do it else-where, it takes time and practice to master but it is worth it. Wait until your opponent moves and use Y to dodge around him for a while, then wait for a time when he backs around you or moves out of sight, this is when you strike. At first I thought it only worked with punch moves, but I have done it with kick as well. If you get it right it will take down a significant amount more damage down than if you just punched from a static position.

Un-like a throw move you don't really know whether or not you have performed the move, the move isn't really that ground-breaking but if you like the game as much as I do then you will take the time out to practice it and master it. If I can come up with a better explanation in the near future I will, for now just try out what I said and see how far you get!

In Kowloon there are a lot of open areas and crumbled buildings that take away the atmosphere, also there are fewer people than the bustling markets of Wan Chi. I enjoyed Wan Chi but I found some of the areas clastrophobic and very crowded, although this is intended I enjoy the more open areas.

It would have been funny if Do Nui had tried to cross the plank, LOL, I thought I had difficulties getting across it with Ryo, I can't imagine what it would be like getting across with him.

You will find the grabbing technique very useful especailly when surrounded by mulitiple opponents and gangs! I found all of the fights farily easy although I found the woman hardest of them all due to her fast Jeet style and powerful moves. The guy in the cage at the end looks a lot harder than he actually is! Don't get me wrong he was a difficult opponent but I defeated him using X,X,X and X,X,A combos and when I could I used Y+B when up close to utilse the stomch push and send him to the ground. The QTE's from him were very hard I agree, especially the end one where you have to dodge his 4 attacks before utilising the move Xuixang taught, this was a very hard set of QTE's to pull off as they came very quick and were very complicated.

The guy with the eye patch got very difficult so I decided to give up in the end, got to Level 5 but even though I had trained hard I needed to focus more on power and explosive predictions to make sure the moves connected as I dodged around him. After finishing DISC 4 I will go back to DISC 1 and make sure that I train very hard, this won't be much use for Shenmue 3 becuase all my training will be required in Shenmue 2X to make sure that the save carries over. When they go to grapple you if you press Y repetetivly you will knock off their attacks and sometimes it can lead to ring outs which will work in your favour.

I mastered 1 panchiko in Demsum QT. it was exactly mastered but I knew roughly where to drop it in order for a victory. If you go there you will find the Museum of panchiko boards, choose the one with $100 bet with odds 2X this has multiple levels of play but you only need 1 of the 3 balls (excuse the expression) in order to take away $100.

My favourite way of earning money would be the arm wrestling if I could master it but practice is needed there especially with the QTE's that break out during the bouts. Otherwise I enjoyed working on the Lucky Money stands in Aberdeen (Wan Chi) and challenging the public to games and then taking away half of the profit at the end of each day (although I never made a profit playing this). Playing cards was fun but I only mastered the rules towards the end before meeting REN so when I play through again this will be my major way to bring in the cash!

I can't wait for the story to unfold in DISC 4 and in Shenmue 3, I want to know who Lan Di is related to and if IWAO killed his father? Sooner or later I think that Ryo will fight Lan Di in a bout which no-one will win (a bit like the one with Quizhan in Shenmue towards the end of the game) but it will be interesting to see both Ryo and Lan Di come head to head in a fight! Maybe Xuixang will inter-fear and save Ryo, or maybe Ren (if he is still on your side) I think that has got to be a major twist in the next Shenmue.

I think there is something fishy about Ren but I can't quite put my finger on it. I believe that he wants to help Ryo but at the expense of him earning some extra money, I believe that this will get Ryo into trouble if he continues to team up with Ren (especially now there is treasure invloved). Wasn't Chai the bald martial arts master from Shenmue 1? I think he is dead and as with Do Nui there seems to be a new gang/boss leader in appearing in every Shenmue and the last we saw of Chai was him in the bottom of Yokosuka harbor! I would like to see Ren, Yuanda Zhu (still believe that he has a story to tell), Fukusan, Quizhan, maybe Tom form the Hot Dog stall in Shenmue and possibly Joy in Shenmue 3 although I am looking forward to some new faces along with a few old faces which keep the story ticking over.

I will look out for the plane in Wan Chi as I play through it for a second time, I saw the one from Kowloon but I missed the one from Wan Chi first time through so I will be keeping my eye out for this one!

I can't practice the move in sparring either as the old man from the park is impossible to hit never mind throw! It was my favourite move from Shenmue and I am going to master it in Shenmue 2 even if I have to study the moves scroll in order to do so. I am not too keen on the double blow as I find it slow to exectue and it doesn't do much damage on harder opponents, try one of the moves Xuixang gives you I think it is <,<, X+A this is a very powerful moves and it is like the double blow just quicker and easier to execute, Xuixang teaches you this at the Man Mo temple towards the end of Disc 2. The machine gun punch can be aquired from a knife stall in Kowloon (only found this out before finishing DISC 3) and if learnt, Ryo will use this moves in the basement of Yellow Head building to finish off the guy in the mask, the QTE changes so that Ryo performs this moves before he kicks him to finish the guy off!

Shenmue's 1+2 have been by far the greatest games I have ever played (better than Halo if I dare to say)! The graphics are easily the most detailed and clear that I have ever seen and with the screen shots from Shenmue 2X the Xbox is using its extra features (Snap Shot and quick time buffer) to enhance what is already a truly awesome game! Shenmue 3 will hopefully produce the best in the series as it will not be a port from a game already out, the buildings will be developed from scratch to deliver what could possibly be a game to defy all others. It was worth getting a Dreamcast alone to play these 2 games and it was worth getting an Xbox to carry on what is already a franchise which in my opinion is UN-BEATABLE! All credit to SEGA and AM2 (especially Yu Suzuki) a series which has already hooked me in and will keep me there until I (myself) seek vengence against Lan Di for IWAO's death and retrieve the Dragon mirror!

(p.s, did you every ,master 'predicitve explosion' from the blind musician? I never used it after learning it from him in street fights just once when fighting on one platform to catch a kung-fu master that was very quick)

*MAY CONTAIN SPOILERS ASWELL!*

Glad your enjoying the game so much.

i know why u prefer Kowloon, but I prefer Wan Chai becaue the atmousphere feels sooo great, especially at night! With all the lights, it makes you feel as if you are there!!

Getting to the 40th floor is great! All the QTE's, going over the planks and getting away from Do Nui!

Thanx for the grabbing technique!! I found all the 3 opponents fairly easy! All you need to do is keep tapping y to dodge and do the multiple punch! It is effective and slowly chips away at their energy! the only thing i failed at was the QTE afterthat woman and the other fight with that bloke in the cage who has white face paint! His QTE's were very hard!!

Yeah, teh eye patch guy does get hard! Just keep moving around to his eye patch where his blind spot is. That other fighter you were talking about with glases and bandana who grabs you by your legs and throws you out if challenging! Again, just dodge around him and bloke, as soon as he grabs you, tap the dodge button and you should get out of it. He was teh most irritating fighter to face, especially because it is best of 3 fights!!!!

Im glad your using my tac tic for gambling. Have you mastered any panchiko boards yet? ie. found teh exact place to drop the red ball so that it goes in every time? I managed to do that on one board!

Have you ever worked at a board?? Wots your favourite way of earning money?

--Your view of what will happen further on is a very common one. I though that Xuiging (whatever he name is. lol), was Lan Di's sister, but then I thought that it was far too obvious! You could be right though!

i dont think Ren will turn personally, he did enough turning when Ryo first met him, as you saw when Ryo left Kowloon, Ren gave him the double sided coin as a gift...... however, Ren did seem keen to get the treasure from Guilin!! So he may be in it for himself a bit more, but I doubt that he will turn. If he does he will come back to Ryo I am sure. I think we can basically guarantee he will be in Shenmmue 3! I hope to see Chai, Guixang, and all your toher family in Shenmue 3, who are you looking forward to seeing again?

Yes, a plane does fly over Kowloon in the cut-scene at the beginning. But this little scene happens during play. Whilst going down the steps in Wan Chai, the computer takes over, and it shows you looking up into the sky and a huge massive jump jet flys over the buildings above you, filling msot of the screen, it flys very low. It only lasts for a few seconds, but is very impressive!!! I expect that it does not always happen but is random. I guess I am lucky to have seen it.

Im sorry but i dont know the grab move. Once I have tac tics I really stick to them and dont bother trying out other moves (im boring i know! lol), but I fell happy with dodgy and unleashing powerful moves like Double blow of the three combo punch move (i think its called lighting punch or machine gun punch, soething like that! You just press punch three times in a row basically!)

I agree, Shenmue 2 looks fantastic on Dreamcast, what will Shenmue 3 look like!!!!!!!!! Its gonna be great!!!

Anyone other than Console_Kid reading this I will warn you now *CONTAINS MAJOR SPOILERS*!

Cheers Console_Kid!

I have finished Kowloon and I am on Guillian (DISC 4), Kowloon was by far my favourite area and my favourite part in the game in in the Yellow Head Building where you have to go to the 40th floor in order to find Zhan!

Yoi said you weren't sure how to kick and grab at the same time, in order to do this you need to grab hold of his arm so that you put it around the back of his back (I think it is >B) then use the A button and a direction to kick the opponents which surround you, you can keep kicking and after about 10 seconds RYO will automatically knee the grabbed opponent in the stomach so that he drops to the floor.

Fighting the 3 "Deadly" opponents was truly awesome (especially the woman where you fight on the platform in the middle of the building). The guys were fairly easy to defeat although the 2nd guy from Dragon quater was very annoying especially if he got your legs and threw you out of the ring. The hardest in my opinion was the woman as she was a martial arts master and she had some very difficult moves to counter.

The guy with the patch got very hard as it moved past Level 4 so after defeating him on Level 5 I took my money and ran (literally)! To make the $500 I played one of the board games where for $100 you got 3 shots to get 1 ball into the O, I won every time on that to take my money to exactly $500. I tried some arm wrestling in the Fighting Qt. but after winning 1 round on the $10 table I was asked to play a 2nd and I did but a QTE broke out before I got his hand down to the table and I missed it (came very fast) so I lost! After that I decided to leave the Fighting Qt.

I have my own predictions for the story, they are (CONTAINS SPOILERS):

I think that Xuixang is Lan Di's sister, in 1 of the cut scenes at the Man Mo Temple Xuixang has a flash-back where her brother leaves her to seek revenge for their parents murder. On the roof top building where Lan Di is hanging from the Helicopter I noticed he has the same eye shape and nose as Xuixang (could be coincidental) but then you find out that Lan Di was seeking revenge for his fathers death (apparently IWAO but I think there is more to this) and when Xuixang gives you half of the martial arts sign you see another flash-back where her brother gives it her (Lan Di could have the other half but I am yet to finish CD 4 or it could happen in Shenmue 3). Don't you agree that this could be a possibility?

I also think that REN will turn against Ryo in either Disc 4 or in Shenmue 3 as he goes in search of the treasure, he could even go onto Lan Di's side although this would be a big extreme at the moment but I will have to see how the game ends.

*SPOLIERS OVER*

You mentioned the plane flying over Wan-Chi, wasn't it Kowloon when you first arrived as that shows off the true power of the game. I could be wrong about that but I don't remember seeing a plane over Wan-Chi only the one over Kowloon.

I am going to finish the game tonight (a bit later on) and then I will go straight back to the beginning so that I can really absorb the story and take everything in before Shenmue 2X AND 3 are released. I can't wait for Shenmue 3 now and it is easily my most anticipated game.

Do you know how to do the garb and punch X2 move? RYO grabs the opponent by the neck and then punches them twice in the stomach, I can grab the opponents neck but I am unsure of how I did it and I can not always get him to punch the stomach twice, do you know?

Cheers!

Yeah, Guixangs move is very powerful. I like using the Double Blow which was one of the most powerful moves in Shemue 1! It can take an enemy out with one hit! I find it effective, but you need to judge carfully!

I haev never actually grabbed someone else while kicking the other people, though I have seen video clips of it, and it looks great. Do you know how to do it?

Yeah tornado kick is my favourite move as it hits multiple enemies and can clear out a whole room.. using roudhouse and tornado kick in the 70 person batle in shenmue 1 was very effective. Its also effective in Shenmue 2!

Yes, some opponents dodge your attacks, so you can fight people in 30 sconds, of course you win if you hit them within that time. Its pretty easy, but some people you can fight for money. One bloke has an eyepatch.... in Kowloon, there is a point where you have to go fighting all the people in that area as i said earlier. Because you are looking for a training guy! Thats pretty fun.

The Yuan cut scene is great, especially locking fatso in the cupboard... its also funny cos whenever Ren flips a coin, you always do the task. I dont want to give too much away.

All of the planned fights wih money are on platforms! You will now if you are fighting someone, cos you have to approach and a little fighting icon will come up. I think there are about 4 people to fight in Kowloon in which you can make money. Later on in the game you have to actually fight proper street fighters to progress in the game, but they are located in buildings. All of the fights on platforms where you can bet for money are outside..... To look for them.. (ill try and explain, I have not played Shenmue 2 for some time) one person you can find near a market area... if you remember the cut scene with that woman you were following, she went up to a market stall to look at what one person was selling, and she diddnt like the smell of it! Well I hope you know the market area I am talking about, near a big fountain!!!! If you look closly in that area (and it is in that area) you can go through an arch which leads to big staris which lead down. That is just one person to fight.....

Aniother fighting location, is as soon as you enter Kowloon, you know the stairs you have to go up to (past the blind man playing his instrument). Now walk forward past all the panchiko boards, there should be a park to your right once up the stairs adn past the panchiko boards. There is a fighting area near there.

Due to your cash shortage, use my tac tic of gambling all your money! Save before so as I said. Another tip which could haev saved you money is to not pay the man at the Come over Guesthouse (i know its a bit late to say this but), did u ever pay him?? I diddnt at all! Its fine not to.

I cant remember if there is an arcade in Kowloon, maybe im not sure. But I know that arcade machines are located in the buildings somewhere! (dont ask me where! lol)

That QTE event is pretty cool, as you said....

Whats your favourite area in the game? Also, have you had that mini cut scene in Wan Chai as i said with the plane comming over???

You said you are still waiting for a street fight to pay you money, well that fight where you hit somone within 30 seconds pays out money.... as I said try to follow my dodgy instructions as to where a few fighting areas are. A man with jeans and an eye patch is a proper fight for money.

Hope this helps.

For fighting I use dodge a lot, I use the move Guixang taught where you press >Y+B that is a very powerful move and will nearly tak enemies out in one! For multiple attacks I grab one and hold him then I kick the rest away before throwing the grabbed opponent onto the rest! I start of using either the Cyclone Kick or Tornado Kick to hopefully seperate a bunch of enemies.

I haven't faught anyone yet although I have just arrived at a fughting block near Anna Cafe but I am note sure if it is fighting because all it said was hit your opponent once within 30 seconds! I have just followed Yuan to her room in that awesome set of cut scenes where RYO and REN follow her through the town whilst keeping an eye on her! The cupboard bit was pretty funny where you double kick the fat guy in and trick the bird into saying where you are hiding.

Please would you tell me where I can find actual fighting ares? Is it on platforms or just on the street?

I haven't really played that many Mini Games due to a cash shortage, I found an arcade on Golden QR. near Wan Chi and I wanted to play the guy at darts but I didn't have enough $! Are there any arcades in Kowloon?

My favourite part of the game so far is on DISC 2 where Zhang is kidnapped from the restaurant and you get jumped by that group of thugs (smashing them though the tables was awesome) and then you have the really long cut-scene where you fight 30 of them in a QTE and you knock them into buildings, market stalls and shops! That bit was awesome!

I am trying to find some fighting ares as I am yet to play in a street fight for money, would it be possible if told me the areas and how good they are?

Cheers!

ohhh. by the way that dice game you played where you guess whether it is high or low is my fav! Its called Roll It On Top!!!! My favourite!!! I save before hand and bet all my money. Potentially this is the most well paid and best way of making money in Shenmue 2..... also to get money, on the panchiko boards, if your speciailised at one, you cna find out the exact point at which to drop the ball where it will always go into the correct hole at the bottom!!! I managed to master one board.....

What are your tac tics for Shenmue fighting? I mainly dodge alot and attack from behind, its very effective for me.

I do have an XBox, the reason I got it was because many great Sega games are going to XBox!

Those possible shenmue 3 screens, are only of the Beta version from Shenmue 2. Thos screens will probably be extras in the XBox version. So hopefully, there will be a few extra areas to explore in Shenmue 2. If you look at one of the screens, the 'r' button is used, so on Shenmue 2X, the trigger buttons could be used for more complex QTEs! Cant WAIT!!!!

I diddnt know they had a release date, I thought development of the game was suspended until Sega know how well Shenmue 2x will do on XBox! Next year? That should be good.

I see you have found the fights in Kowloon, there are about 4 fight areas..... In one of the tasks you have to fight in every tournament to look for this bloke (i dont wanna give too much away!!). So either way you will HAVE to end up fighting people. How well have you done in it?

Also... have you fought in the fights in the harbour area? Near the moored boats near the lighthouse which is also near the waste area. PHEW! At least your having fun. Shenmue 2 sure is a great game!

Have you had a very mini, mini cut scene in Wan Chai when you are going down some steps, and you look up and see a huge plane flying over the buildings. Its the big steps near man Mo temple (not the steps comming down from Man Mo, but steps further along). It looks fantastic and really proves that Dreamcast is just as powerful as any next-gen console!

A little tip with QTE's. When you press left when the right comes up on the screen is a common thing to happen. It has happened to me, its only because you are hesitating. Just calm down adn really focus and just look at the centre of the screen and keep your eyes focused for the next QTE.

...So, which is your favourite area so far? And how many mini games have you found yet?
