We all know who he is and what he can do - just look at the 2002 World Cup that recently ended at a time that seems so-long-ago, or even the 2001/02 season in La Liga with Barcelona - which turned out to be his last for the club. HE is the player clubs such as Newcastle and lazio have been keeping a watchfull eye on for the last few seasons.
If anything's really helped his career to flurish and help him to reach his full-potential as a recognised Brazillian 'Superstar' then it has to have been from that day when he signed on the dotted line at the Nou Camp for Spanish giants Barcelona. My first reaction to this is that Barcelona have gone mad - and I bet you were somewhere along the same lines too!
But when you stop and think about the Financial Crisis that has hit Italian Football and is slowly sailing over to Spain, and contextualise that with the number of 0's you see in Rivaldo's Bank Account, you can see that this suicidal move HAS been thought about and that many options - if not all - have been thoroughly considered.

The transfer of a player of Rivaldo's calibur could take quite some time to complete. No, of course there would be interest in him, but sifting through the good parts and the bad parts to get the best deal would be the hardest part. And in that time of multiple-negotiations, he'd still be a player contrcated to the club, and therefore he'd still be recieving his wages - and that wouldn't help the club one bit for a player on something as rediculous as £100k per week!
And anyway, many of the big-names would barely be able to afford the transfer fee ALONE with the financial problems currently on-going elsewhere.
Man United would be a safe bet, but they just aren't interested in the 30 year old anymore. With Italy out of the question that's one mass-market of potential buyers out of the question.
The only club remaining are Newcastle! And Sir Bobby Robson isn't the type of man who'll rashly spend so much in one move - even if the one player you'd recieve could do so much!
So it looks like this 30-year old World Cup Cheater is stuck in a rut that he may not be able to get out of anytime soon. And even if he does survive, would he really be happy spending nights at home infront of a heater in a town like Newcastle??
He may have to take what's best for the remaining years of his career - even if he doesn't like it!
So then, what is best for him???
Newcastle have been on-his-tail for a good few years now and this is probabyl going to be the best chance the club will ever have of landing a World Cup superstar! Even if they loose a lot financially, they could have got a lot back come this time next summer!

And to add to that there's the FA Cup, League Cup, the chance to play at Old Trafford and the Cardiff Millennium Stadium, and you'd be guarrenteed 2 fixtures against Man United - the team everyone loves to hate!
Unless of course you're PLAYING at Old Trafford on a regular basis.

Everyone else seems happy with their attack in the Premiership, and it's not like even United would be tempted to give him £100k-a-week after the £30m capture of Rio Ferdinand and his £70k weekly charges.

no they couldn't sell rivaldo they tried to the problem was that he is 12 mill + outrageous wages and nobody was prepared to pay both. He also only had 12 months on his contract and wasn't going to sign another and so would have left for free. They had a chance to sign riquelme who will be amazing and are only allowed to register 3 non eu players so they decided to get rid of rivaldo as he was surplus to requirments and absolutely hates Van de Gaal the new Barca manager. So they got rid of him as he was unsellable due to the total high cost of any potential deal.
