For some reason now I am unable to connect via Freeola's Dial up since i have got Pipex ADSL. My modem is still plugged in and connected to the phone line, but it just won't connect.

Anyone else ever had this problem?? and if so how do you sort it out?? I was under the impression I would still be able to use my 56k Modem when I had ADSL put in, is this not the case??

Thansk guys.

IE. search Google for the name of your modem, and one or two sites will mention something about extra commands. They'll give their own instructions, and if you follow them then you should get a faster modem :-)

ok, kinda lost me a bit there Rob, lol.

How do I 'plug it in to google' and throw it an ATD command?

Have you tried throwing different ATD commands at it? Plug your modem into Google and see what extra commands you should be sending it that Windows is too lazy to bother about. You should see that you performance will increase and dialup time will reduce dramatically.

In the end I found out that acctually the Modem works fine and Freeola will dial up. The only thing is though is that it takes a long time to connect, a lot longer than it used to, which is why I thought it wasn't working.

Thanks for your help, and it does work now, but it takes about a minute to connect, is this normal for ADSL users?

Rob, yeah the two Dial-up accounts are set up to use the correct modem, the Pipex one with the ADSL one and the Freeola one with my existing modem.

Darkus, don't use Freeola for your Web Site I take it ;o). Seeing as you work for them, would you be able to shed any light as to the monthly hosting plans we were talking about a while back??? Will they happen???

Fog, I'll have a look at the IRQ thingy now...

Thanks for the quick replies too :o)

Have you told Dial Up Networking which modem to use? It may be using default - the ADSL modem, which will obviously screw ove.

It's probably something to do with your IRQ (right click on My Computer > Properties > Device Manager), it probably thinks since you've installed a new modem you won't want to use the 56k so it's removed it from the IRQ...maybe.
This hasn't happened to me though so thats just a guess.
