The "Freeola Customer Forum" forum, which includes Retro Game Reviews, has been archived and is now read-only. You cannot post here or create a new thread or review on this forum.
Another day, another great opportunity to win an EXTRA GAMEADAY prize. That's one prize of any game of your choice if you are a member of SR, or one prize of an SR Membership with Free Gift, if you are not a member.
Take a look at this page:
http://registration.freeola.net/errors/e.php?ec=404
The purpose of this page is to show people that they have gone to the wrong page.
However, there is another important role for these pages, and that's to get people to our site! Most of the people seeing this error page have never heard of us, and we want them to become SR fans.
This competition closes on August 10th and will be judged by Loki himself.
To win you must design a simple, fast-loading page with sufficient innovation to achieve a high click rate to the following sites:
UKgames.com
UKpc.net
Freeola.com
GetDotted.com
Place the url in a reply in this thread and Loki will pop in from time to time and publish your link as a hotlink in this opening thread (so that people can easily see all the page designs you have entered).
You can enter as many times as you like and there will be one winner who produces the design which impresses loki the most. If no designs impress loki at all then he will not issue a prize.
It's vital that the page loads quickly. You are more likely to win with some clever wording than you are with flashy designs. You can use one of our stock banner, like the one shown on the error page at present, or you can make your design without a banner if you like.
Good Luck.

She's nice, but unfortunatly, she's probably copywrited!
Where did you get the picture from?
Must find more!
Ahhhhhhhhhhhhh....
Shame somebody has written all over her!

I'm pretty sure that nobody will moan if it is used, if you look at my pages, I've used tables in mine!
Will Mr Table sue me if my entry gets used?
I doubt that there will be hardly any javascript that is going to be copywrited due to the fact that it is uncontrollable!
I bet SR's pages are full of it!
The fact is that every page will have a copied element in it that was not their idea, the text on ever page would have probably been borrowed and modified from somewhere...
Actualy, I'm pretty sure somebody has written an arguemant like this before and has probably copywrited it!

I never said the actual algorithm for typing the text itself was my own. It was originally written by someone from the Netherlands - at least my version was. Kingston Communications (my ISPs parent company and also employer) use it for some of their ISPs 404 pages which is where I got the source from but it's probably on a few places in one form or another. Any programmer wil tell you "not to re-invent the wheel" (translation: don't write code that's already written for you - and legally available). I'll happily explain exactly how it works if you like, or maybe re-write it altogether, just to prove I understand it.
There are people here using graphics from Special Reserve's web site as well. Are you going to accuse people of ripping them off by not drawing their own?
Surely the design of the page itself it what's being judged.
Your honour (no, not that one), the defence rests.
Members of the jury have you reached a verdict?
*the jury are asleep*
I think we can say that this debate is a bit pointless from both angles.
;)

I know, loads of people are doing that...
I'm pretty sure that they want a completely independant page from the site...
Anybody can copy the normal site and past a few words onto it!
Anyway, I was looking down the list of sites people have made and saw a really good one, I'm pretty sure it has a great chance of winning, lets see who it was...
Oh, it was me...
:c)
P.S I'm sooooo original
P.P.S Am I allowed to use flash?!?
If it's not broke, don't try to fix it. Add to it instead :-)
*trips over Tony's chair again*
Hey, I thought that was supposed to catch Mystique, not me!
Oh well, I'll give this thing a shot:
