Before you put your sick little brains into work about the title or stop the confusion now by telling you im on about the length of games on the next generation consoles.
It seems to me, and a lot of my freinds, that games on the 128bit consoles are shorter than the 64 and 32bit consoles. I even read somewhere the nintendo are doing this because they have had reports from gamers that they find games too long and they get bored of them near the end.
well the reason ive posted this is to find out if they are right.
First of all i for one am with this idea. Even now i have unfinished N64 and PS1 games on my shelfs gathering dust because i now have a gamecube to play on, and i always look up at them and think "i wonder what the ending is like on that" or "was the boss at the end really that hard", now sooner or later i will return to them and find out but until then it will always be bothering me. Not only get me thinking of the end but it also gets me mad because i just spent good money on a game which i havent even completed.
Also with long games which use the same idea throughtout the game you can soon get bored of it being repetative and just giving up playing because it turns out to be no fun, even if you know you have nearly completed it.
Dont get me wrong though im not for very short games, like luigis mansion, which last you a few days, no matter how good the gameplay, graphics etc. are.
The sort of game im looking for, and im sure many other people are, are games which have good gameplay, graphics and all that but i also want something that will test me and take me a while to complete while still enjoyable to play.
so prehaps the gaming industry has gone from one problem, too long, to another, too short.
The simple giude lines for a game is that the player gets his money worth, enjoys the experience, dosent play for hours on end of the same repetavtive gameplay and also has something to go back to, mostly multiplayer.

The length of games doesn't necessarily depend on the content, but the skill of the player. However, I don't believe it's the length of the game that allows you to judge whether you've got your money's worth. It's more about how much you enjoyed the game and whether you'd want to play it again.

Back to the topic of length though, I think Nintendo are taking the wrong approach with their 'short 'n' sweet' policy. If The Legend of Zelda on the GameCube doesn't have length, will it be worth it? Even the Game Boy version of The Legend of Zelda, Link's Awakening, had length and also had the fun-factor that just about every Zelda game has had so far.

If a game is good, then it should be able to go on for hours and hours whilst keeping you hooked onto it, whether it has a complex and indepth storyline that keeps you attracted or whether it's the gameplay itself. As the saying goes, "You can't have too much of a good thing". That's where some games falter. They're so good, yet they're so short and it leaves you wanting some more. That could be the developers plan to get you to buy the sequels but it's just not a fair deal for the gamer.

Sure, there does come a point where games are too long. Especially for those who can afford many games in the year, long games don't necessarily get played to the max. The gamer buys a game, say Final Fantasy X in this case. Gets about halfway through the game and notices a new game has caught the gamer's attention. The gamer buys that game and starts playing it right away. Final Fantasy X is still left uncompleted and it is a while before the gamer will want to go back. When the gamer finally does, the gamer decides to restart the game because he or she has lost the plot, but in doing so feels that he or she is just playing the same old thing again and doesn't bother. That has happened to me in the past when I have bought new games.

Sometimes it can take great detirmination to complete a long game when you've got others you know you want to play right away. When I used my Dreamcast as my primary console, I was hooked on Skies of Arcadia, yet I bought Jet Set Radio a few days after Skies of Arcadia. I managed, with great determination to get as far as the last boss on Skies' before falling to temptation and playing Jet Set Radio. That was in Spring and I am yet to go back and actually finish Skies of Arcadia. Skies of Arcadia isn't quite as long as some other games, yet it's long enough to get you to start to lose interest, despite it being one of the most addictive RPGs out there!

However, the good thing with the decent long games is that there's always something there to make you want to play them again sometime. Maybe once you've completed or just had enough of your other games you'll go back to the game you left for the new one. This doesn't work for everyone mind as some people rent games or sell them to get enough money for the next game they want.

With the very short games such as Luigi's Mansion and Pikmin, you'll play them right to the end, but once you've done so, there isn't that much to drag you back to them afterwards. Sure, they've got replayability, but once you know where everything is, or how to progress, these games lose part of the fun.

There is no doubt about it, longer games are better even if it does mean you wont complete them in a matter of days. After all, some people claim to have completed games like Final Fantasy X in around 80 hours. In total that's just over three days if played continuously! To get your moneys worth, a game doesn't necessarily have to be comepleted withing a time frame, just has to be fun.
