While i have a few games with both Widescreen and 60Hz modes, most games out there are still 4:3 and 50Hz. Why was GT3 only 50Hz? I would like to c more games make use of the newer technology, at least then it wouldn't have to be "stretched" to fit my widescreen tv.

I've got a Widescreen TV (not Widescreen 16:9 mode, well, thats what it is, but on a Widescreen TV) and the games look brilliant, even better if it's one of those new-fangled 100Hz screen thingymajigs.

Which are really good.

Watching a film in Widescreen is different to playing a game in Widescreen.

Anyway, the point is, Widescreen TV's are becoming more and more common, as are TVs that support 60Hz. The consoles support Widescreen output (well, PS2 and Xbox do - not sure about Gamecube), so it's about time the developers started making use of it.

Excuse me, all films in the cinema are shown in widescreen.

Although I prefer seeing films in the cinema (cos the screen is much bigger and there's less of a wait to see the film) I always go for the DVDs which are not solely widescreen.

Sure, I ain't played videogames on a proper widescreen TV, but I've seen movies in widescreen and compared them with normal-shape screen...

Yes, WS mode on a normal 4:3 tv is not the same. To get the true picture, it must be a Widescreen set in 16:9 mode. Then the games machine must be set to 16:9 mode (in the main software, not the game) - also true for DVD and Digi boxes. And last, the game must be set to Widescreen 16:9 mode.

Also the black borders on some 50Hz games should open out if your tv supports 60Hz, and the game has a 60Hz option in it. You may find that the 60Hz option on your tv is only via SCART 1 or another socket. May not work through all the sockects on the tv.

I'm quite happy playing my 60hz GameCube games on my normal screen TV though.

Widescreen ain't anything special.

Ah, but...

1. Is it just a Widescreen mode, or is it a proper Widescreen TV?

2. If it's a 4:3 TV with a Widescreen mode, then it gives you black borders and a squashed picture.

3. If you play a game that doesn't have Widescreen support in Widescreen mode on a Widescreen TV, then you also get a squashed picture.

However, play a game which supports Widescreen on a Widescreen TV in Widescreen mode, and you'll wish they all supported it.

My TV has a widescreen function on it. I played my GameCube games in widescreen and I definately preferred the fullscreen mode...
