I've just rolled over the latest Metroid Prime footage again and come to terms that it's as good as I should've been expecting.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying that I was wrong to be against Samus being ALL first person.

If it had been "Super Metroid 3D" then it would've had all the things that currently make it so great (and there are a LOT of them), only it would've also been a great platformer showing a smoothly animated Samus with hundreds of kick-ass moves/weapons to be both used at once.
It would've redefned "cool" gaming as the most sleek bounty hunter in the universe would combine wits, agility and fire power to make the like of Lara Croft and Solid Snake look pathetic.

But Retro ARE only human, and although they didn't quite push the Metroid liscence to it's true potential (still, there can be future Metroid games to do this - even if I have to make them! ;-D), they have done a fine job.

Although Prime lacks platforming, it's still a reasonable game without it and nearly makes up for it with the neat visor tricks.
Samus' trademark roll is there but is a bit more "gimmick" based this time round.

Never the less, the game is looking great (from enemies to arena's) and if Metroid HAD to be an FPS, this is the best it could be.

And if I want to go platforming with Samus, there's always the new GBA title and Smash Brothers Melee (you can even use her grappling beam to pull yourself up ledges!).

Although Retro couldn't realise my vision of "Super Metroid in 3D", perhaps that's because no one can...

Except Rare, ofcourse!

Even if Metroid Prime wasn't quite what I was hoping for when I was told about a next gen Metroid game, as First Person Shooters go, this one will rock.

PS. I'm beginning to think that NGC magazine don't know jack about the Metroid series. Human enemies? What sort of bounty hunter do they take Samus for?
