That name doesn't make any sense at all. It would be like the Alien films being named the following:
Alien
Aliens
Alien2
etc.

I've been playing Metal Gear just lately on the NES, and that had a sequel, so surely that was Metal ear 2? Why don't they just call the new one Metal Gear: Son's of Liberty?

Nintendo haven't always been good at naming things.

eg. Nintendo Entertainment System (nes)
Followed up by SUPER Nintendo Entertainment System (Snes)

Mario - Super Mario (Mario on Super Nintendo) - Mario 64 (Mario in 64 bit) - Mario 128 (mario in 128 bit)

Mario Kart - Mario Kart 64 (Mario Kart in 64 bit) - Mario Kart Advance (Mario Kart on Gameboy advance)

Do you see?

Your right, they don't have any imagination, it would be nice to have another name after it, but it sells for some reason, Nintendo does try and we thank them for it, but it has some simularity, Zelda:Ocarina Of time/Zelda:Majorca's Mask they're just the recent titles, if you look at the ones onthe nes/snes/gameboy, then you'll realise they have the same thing goin on.
I can only think of one sequel on the PSX that has a different title, that is Rainbow 6/Rogue Spear, but both of these were originaly made for the PC, so Sony have yet to prove to me that they have some ideas.

Too confusing for the Americans I expect. Anyway, it follows Sony's pattern for innovative product naming.

For example: Nintendo...SNES-->N64-->GameCube
Then we have Sony.......Playstation-->Playstation 2

See? Their marketing department worked really hard before they came up with that one during a teabreak.

Therefore, it follows that the sequel to Metal Gear will not be named Metal Gear: Sons of Liberty, or Metal Gear: Solid Revelation, or anything remotely snappy like that.

What we have is the concise, cheaper to print, easy for Americans to understand: Metal Gear 2 (although there was a lot of debate as to whether or not the '2' should be put in bold type or underlined for the US packaging.)
