Virtua Tennis is fun, but it isn't exactly a decent game. It's way too simple. You can't win a point with a beautiful passing shot down the line, you have to wait until one player makes a mistake.

What I want is a good tennis game with proper players and things like pressing the button just at the right time to do a sweet pass down the line, giving the other player no chance. Actually being able to end a rally with one shot would be nice, rather than waiting for the other player to get out of position like you have to in Virtua Tennis.

The best known player in Virtua Tennis is Henman and he's a tw@t. Only 8 real players too.

I know you'd have to get the proper license but has anyone even got the proper license?

Once you have the license it can't be hard to put in loads of players. Just give them a mark out of ten for volleying, speed, forehand power, backhand power, smashing, etc.

Also, having the surfaces actually make a difference would be good too so that you'd have to pick the correct player to have the best chance depending on what court surface you're using.

Oh and a proper season thing with all the major tournaments. Wimbledon, US Open, everything.

Just think how bad Virtua Tennis seems compared to that!

I've just got Smash Court Pro Tennis on the PS2 and it's great!!!!

Ok, it's only got 8 selectable players, but Sampras, Agassi and Rafter are in it to name a few!!!!

I highly recommend it!!!

There's three or four on the SR database (on PS2), like Smash Court Tennis.

I don't know how good they are though, I just thought I'd let you know they exist.

What actually made me think of this was a combination of watching Wimbledon and playing Virtua Tennis again.

I plugged back in my DC today you see and Virtua Tennis wasn't quite as good as I remembered it to be. It's fun but the lack of real players (that I like) is really annoying and you can't win points with one stroke.

Now I REALLY want a real tennis game.

Mario Tennis is good fun, but it isn't the simulation you're looking for. I've gone back to Virtua Tennis but you don't seem really happy for it - how about Virtua Tennis 2, again on Dreamcast?

I haven't played it but it might be an improvement...

I'd much prefer something like Anna Kornikova's Smash Court Tennis on PS1.
It allows a lot more freedom and imagination to go into the game with it's cartoony visuals, plus non-human characters too.

The four-player on that was ace.
Ha! 'Ace' get it.

I'll shut up now.

I mean a decent TENNIS game. It's a very good game but it isn't a proper tennis game.
