My first games console was a machine with 12 games built-in. There was Tennis, Squash, Hockey etc. It also had a light gun, and you had to shoot a white dot that travelled around the screen. I can't remember what it was called, but when i first got it i thought it was great.

Games consoles have really come a long way. God i feel old now.

Well, I'm in there with Babylonian and the other oldies!

Started with an old Atari system closely followed by the C64. I remeber tyoing in programs from the back pages of ZZap! and the likes. Damn some of those games were cool! Not much on graphics but the gameplay was the best!
So, with the PS2 coming with YABASIC on the demo disc do you think they'll start printing pages and pages of code in the playstation mags now :-)

Man it would be just like the old days..... now wheres my slippers:-)

A second hand Master System 2 (with Sonic built in). I gave it to my cousin quite recently.

I'm impressed guys, most of you are indeed dedicated gamesters. After my first console, (See above for details), i was in the wilderness until i bought a Sega Mega Drive (Due to the fact that i thought Sonic was exellent). This did me fine until i bought the PSX, and as you know, the rest is history.

Atari 'Pong' 1978?
ZX81 1982
ZX Spectrum 1984?
Sega Megadrive 1991
SNES 1992
Sega Megadrive with CD add on 1994
Sony Playstation 1995
PC 1996
Sega Saturn 1996
Faster PC 2000
Gameboy Color 2000
PS2 (US) 2000

The Atari is a bit dusty, but they still all work. The CD-32 I nearly bought because Diggers looked such a good game and it was way ahead of the Megadrive at the time. Pity it didn't get the support it deserved.

On my wish list now are N64, Dreamcast and a faster PC, the first two hopefullly by Feb 2001 and the PC at the end of next year. Then I will be drooling over the X-Box for a few months no doubt. Then I'll be too old to play it and go back to chequers. Ah well, c'est la vie.

My first console is probably a collector's item due to its lack of success! It was an Amstrad and was classed somewhere between a master system and a megadrive. It had an excellent racing game called Burnin' Rubber but the console suffered the Saturn's fate of not enough third party support.

Anyone remember this console?

My first console was a Sega Master System. I got it one Christmas with Sonic 2, Olympic Gold and Alex Kidd (which was built in). With two controllers playing Olympic Gold was the best multiplayer game of its kind back then, use to sit up all throughout the night challenging family and friends. The first game I ever bought for any console was Prince of Persia and this was one of the Master Systems best games. I had quite a collection of games over the next year or so, Sonic 1-2, Olympic Gold, Prince of Persia, Alex Kidd, Wonderboy, Mortal Kombat, R-Type, Kick Off, Champions of Europe, WImbledon Tennis, Streets of Rage, George Foremans Boxing, Populous, Double Dragon, Paperboy, Monaco Grand Prix, Basketball Nightmare, NBA Jam. Ahh so many happy memories!!

Ah yes, typing in listings! I remember that. It's actually how I got into programming. I had a book that contained several games, all in a very generalised version of BASIC.

One in particular was a text-based adventure. I typed it in to my VIC-20, and had no end of problems. So I was going back and forth between the book and my VIC-20 manual looking for the right commands to use. Took me about two weeks, but I got it working! not bad for an eight-year-old!

I also had one of my own Commodore 64 programs published in the magazine "Your Commodore" when I was just 13 years old! They paid me about £115, which I put towards buying an Oceanic 5.25-inch disk drive, which came with the GEOS operating system!

Ah, those were the days!

PlayStation believe it or not.

Up until then I had been a home computer player.
Started on a VIC20 typing in code listings from 'Computer and video games'.

Hows that for showing your age ?
