i got this in an email fowarded from a mate. I assumes it was junk but tried it anywa. Its HONESTLY not.

Hi everyone - Have you all been receiving a lot of junkmail lately?
This might be the reason why...

Did you know that about 2 months ago MSN added 2 little boxes in all
the profiles? These boxes, if marked share your email with other
users. One box, if ticked, gives other people the right to see your
information including your address. Now MSN has taken all the
passports that were created before they added this and marked YES
SHARE MY INFORMATION and did not tell anyone. (!!!!)

HOW to remove your name: sign into your email account (for those
with more then 1 you have to do it for all of them), click on
Options then Personal Profile and scroll to the bottom ... u will
see the TWO added boxes - remove the check marks and finish up. PLZ
FWD this to everyone who has hotmail - lets not wait until it is too
late (this may decrease all that junk mail that seems to have
doubled lately). CHECK it out. It's true.


The 2 boxes mentioned allow microsoft to share your details (address etc)with other companies and give youe email address to other people.

go uncheck the boxes unless you havn't already.

hmmm interesting the use of the word Spam cause it now being illegal it would be foolish of companys specially if it is illcit mail. I get tons of stuff a week thats rubish so i look then dump or sometimes even have a good laugh then dump ie diet pills.

You say "EXTRA SPAM" as though MS expects us all to get a predefined amount of usual spam...

and im sure these are new options cos i never ever ever ever check stuff that talks about giving my email address to other companies.

That could be part of a reason, however, most of junk mail comes in from AdAware or AdVirus that you collect when you surf on the internet, cookies normally are enough to allow you to get junk mail. I would say that you should get 'AdAware' a free piece if software taht dectects these virus'.

I found over 150 on my first scan, no joke.

Get it. Norton finds normal virus'... not Ad ones.

Mine were unchecked already but even as soon as I had signed up with my account I was getting spam, my account get maxed out within 2 days normally. There we go, just got another one!

Basically, people send mails to every possible combination of letters that they can think of resulting in you getting emails straight away as soon as you activate the account. I use Yahoo, it's 10 times better and has a SPAM filter.

Perhaps another reason you are getting hundreds of junk mail messages is because so-called friends are sending Forwards with your address in full view in the CC part. If they were to send it to one person and then BCC to everyone else then your address wouldn't be scattered all over the world in forwarded mails.

errrr.... Hotmail has had these options for, ooh, 4 years now...
