title says it all if you're a fan of the series.

But since I'm assuming most of you are not, I will let you in on the basic plot (if such a thing can be done here).

The story is based around one Ataru Moroboshi, a bloke of epic lecherous proportions. He has a girlfriend Shinobu. One day, aliens land on earth and say they will invade, unless a human can beat their champion at their favoured sport. The human will be picked at random from all of humankind, and will have ten days to defeat the alien champion at.... tag.

Of course, as it happens, Ataru is chosen at random as the human champion, and at first refuses to represent mankind. Only when the alien champion is unveiled - a beautiful and shapely (apart from two small horns on her head...) bikini clad young girl named Lum, who happens to be an alien princess (and only ever wears a bikini...), and heir to the invading army. One look at the lovely lady, and Ataru immediately accepts the challenge.

So, day 1, and the challenge begins. All Ataru has to do is catch the alien princess and touch her horns, and humankind is saved from the invasion. So, Ataru immediately charges toward Lum, and makes a diving leap for her horns. It is at this point it is revealed that Lum can fly. Lum easilly flies over Ataru, who lands squarely on his jaw on the hard concrete. Undetered, Ataru tries, tries and tries again to catch Lum and save mankind, climbing up street lamps, over cars and even up the sides of buildings trying to catch Lum. Unfortunately, every time he tries, he fails. Lum is just too good.

At the end of day 9, an exhausted Atar is comforted by hisgirlfriend Shinobu. To encourage him for the next day, Shinobu promises Ataru that should he be victorious, she will marry him. Encouraged, Ataru gets thinking...

Day 10. and the race is about to begin again. Ataru seems strangely confident. The timer begins, and Ataru pulls out a gun with a plunger attached to rope on it. He fires and catches Lum's bikini top, and pulls it off!! Embarrassed, Lum can only stand there hiding her chest while Ataru jumps over and grabs her horns. VICTORY!! HUMANKIND IS SAVED!

Ataru, overjoyed at the victory, and the prospect of the impending wedding, shouts aloud "I won! At last I can be married". Lum, being an alien, misinterprets this as a marriage proposal to her, and on her planet, proposals are sacred. She promptly accepts the proposal, which due to it's sacred nature, Ataru cannot withdraw - much to the lack of a musement of his girlfriend.

This sets the scene for easilly the most hilarious series of anime TV eps, OAV's and movies I have ever had the great pleasure of watching.

I suggest you invest in it.

When people say, "Anime is just porno cartoons" are they being serious?

I know that many people believe that, and it's partly true as many anime films/series are overly violent etc, but to be very offhand about anime that way is definitely not cricket.

When the company 'Manga' were releasing a steady stream on anime videos in the early-mid 90's they sold the whole Japanese anime movement to the geeky sort of people who like shallow violence & sex. Films like Akira, Ghost in the Shell & Ninja Scroll were the big sellers, and were ‘the face of anime’, and therefore portrayed anime as ‘adult cartoons’.
Channel 4 used to show many anime series at very late time slots, but again, these were only the most ultra violent animes like Fist of the North Star & Devil Man, so more family friendly has never really had a look in here in the UK.
Many people then just assumed that anime was a by-word for late night porno cartoons, and so didn't really take an interest, but I can assure to many people, that there are some truly amazing and technically gob smacking anime films out there. Many of these great animes rely solely on characters, storylines, and of course, great animation.

I have mentioned many anime films in previous posts, most of which have very little violence, bad language & sex.
My Neighbour Totoro, is officially the least violent animated movie ever, Kiki’s Delivery Service is a beautifully told little tale, both of these are suitable for all ages, and I recommend them if you have younger relatives (or buy them for your own viewing pleasure).
Wings of Honneamise is a truly amazing and awe inspiring film, it’s available on video in the UK, so go and buy it.
Princess Mononoke, Patlabor 1 & 2, The Castle of Cagliostro, Cowboy Bebop…the list is long, and if you have an all region dvd player there are many great anime films available in the US, all of which can be bought online.
A new anime film called Metropolis is being released in the UK on dvd soon, buy it, and then see that Japanese anime far surpasses anything that Disney can offer.

Give anime a chance, but don’t make the mistake that all anime are just porno cartoons.

I think I’ll expand on this topic soon....

This topic wasn't really a discussion in the first place. I just felt like describing the gist of the scene setting first episode.

I don't know why, I just did.

As for porno cartoons, I've actually seen plenty of them, more because I find them a magnificent form of sexual parody. They really are hilarious.

Well that doesn't leave a lot to discuss in this topic then does it?

Oh apart from the 'Porno Cartoons' reference.

Enjoy.

I don't like repeating myself, but in order to hammer some sense into you, I will indulge this once:

I was told by my teachers in high school that a band named Urusei Yatsura existed, and was Welsh. I had not heard of them then, and I have not heard of them since. The only note of significance to me was that they were named after the anime and manga of the same name by Rumiko Takahashi.

There are of course two possibilities:

1) My teachers were muppets (this is highly likely)
2) There is also a Scottish band of the same name (equally possible, but slightly less plausible)

Take your pick, but mind that my recollection of events is unquestionable in this matter. My recollection is correct, and any argument from you is not only pointless, but incredibly boring.

The band which is named after A CARTOON SERIES you mean? Besides which, i didn't ask if you were a fan of the band, I'm quite sure if you're a fan of the band, the title says *something* to you. Did I make mention of the band in the title though?

No.

I went on to say, if you are a fan of the series. I couldn't care less about insignificant bands, which have no meaning to me. If you're a fan of the series, the title says it all. If you're a fan of the band, it is misleading, since the thread content is far from what you're thinking.

Hence, I say for the last time.

THE TITLE SAYS IT ALL *IF YOU ARE A FAN OF THE SERIES*

In future, perhaps to satisfy your own self-indulgence, I will maybe state things like this:

The title says it all if you are a fan of the series (however, if you know of the band, please read on, since this thread is not about what you think it is and God forbid you make the mistake of thinking that the only thing on this earth named Urusei Yatsura is some semi-existant Scottish band, and then feel compelled to fill this thread with references beyond the scope of it's topic)

But perhaps, to satisfy my own logic, and perhaps even my ego, I will ignore outside references and go on as before.

No so. The TITLE also says it all IF you are a FAN OF THE BAND, as you made no reference to the 'cartoon' in the title.

And you plainly know nothing about Welsh bands.

Find me this welsh band named Urusei Yatsura and I will gladly bow down to your superior knowledge.

No, i know exactly what I'm talking about. The welsh band was never big, and I never heard of them before or since, but they were definitely portrayed as a welsh band in this class lesson.

Besides, your original point is flawed anyway:

Not really. I thought you meant the band.
========================

Let's read it again.

"Title says it all IF you are a fan of the SERIES."

The title didn't say it all to you, because you plainly do not meet the specified requirements.
