JOKING. don't go crazy. I was takin the p!$$. This was actually a great post and made me realise how much sony have fallen behind in this broadband struggle.

Ok this "Dyslexia" thing started because of my little joke... and if you read it properly, it was a joke! and a joke which refered to myself and no-one else!
As for monitor issues...
I'm using a MacG4 with a 22" wide plasma screen (The joys of being a designer!) So everything is clearly legible especially with 20/20 vision to boot!
People have nicely pointed out the error of your ways, so I won't bother...
Now back to your post...
If all goes acording to plan, they'll be using the model that has been established in Japan where you can either a)Subscribe at £7 a month and that includes the leasing of all of the hardware (BB Adapter and HDD) or b)pay a flat fee and purchase the hardware. Though one point you failed to mention, it that if you chose to lease, you never get to actually "own" the hardware itself. As for the initial cost of the hardware, it'll be about £100 for both units together as there is no point in selling them seperately.
Oddly enough, The BB adapter is a 10/100 Ethernet card, so there is no actual "BB Modem" (See PS2 linux Kit)... I wonder how that will work?
Personally I'd quite happily go with option "a" as it is no different from those of us who subscribe to Sky digital etc. You pay x ammount for the service and the subsidised hardware.
I can't see Sony wanting to balls this up, they have spent a lot of time with Macromedia, Fujitsu, AOL, Sony-Ericsson etc working all of this out to risk alienating their userbase.
>As for the person with dyslexia, I can not help that but if the writting is to difficult to read get someone else to read it for or if that fails go to night classes.
Err, your the one who mentioned about someone else, therefore I presumed you were taking the mick out of someone else with dyslexia, that's why I wrote what I did.
Anyway, if you've got it then you a) did well to write that congrats b) your school should have still taught you paragraph etc
Oh and the post looks a lot better now it's spaced out, if you'd have done that the first time then none of this argument wouldnt have happened. Maybe something you may want to consider for the future.
However for your information I will! Seems that I used a plasma screen to write the message so I did not get eye strain. Sorry.
This is not the reason I wrote the message and for the people who wanted the paragraph version here it is:
I think that it is a joke! I mean, why have we got to wait ages for thing such broad band in the UK. The Japanese get things such as games and broad band as soon as Sony think of it. While we (one of the biggest consumers of playstation and other console games and machines) have to wait for years to catch up.
The PC has had Internet gaming since the year dot. So why have the consoles only now stated to bring their own version of Internet gaming out now? Well, up until now Europe has been lagging behind where broad band is concerned and if you want broad band then it is going to cost you around £30 a month which is a lot more than Internet through a modern your PC will cost. So why have Sony not just used a modem system? Well, the main problem with modems is that they are too slow, online going with a modem is really bad and the lag-time is more than ten times that of broad band.
If you have ever played games online through a modem and then tried the same game through broad band you would certainly feel the difference. The same can be said for downloading large files such as music and video files. At the moment it is hard to say when and if broad band will be coming to Europe. Sony are watching closely at how the system operates in Japan and the US but if all goes well over there then it can only be a matter of time until Europe wakes up and gets broad band.
How much is this unit going to cost? Well, I have heard that the Japanese got theirs for free! Yes, for free! Would you believe it! However it was only being given away in a subscription package where they needed to pay £5.50 a month. There was also a package where the Hard Disc Drive and Network adaptor were sold for approximately £115 however there are other packages available so the HDD and Network adaptor may not cost that much over here, with a bit of luck.
The biggest cheese at the moment is that when you have all the items (the Hard disc drive and network adaptor the game you want to play) you need to install the game like on a PC then you have to register a name and other information just like in PC gaming and in some games (like Final Fantasy 11) you have to create your own character, that sounds good yes but the developers have been a bit crafty because it's going to costs' 55p per character that you make.
Now is it just me or is there something wrong with that? You just bought the game for £40, you just bought the Hard disk drive and network adaptor for £100, you are paying a monthly subscription of £7 and now to play the game you have to pay 55p to create a character. I know that the more characters you make the more memory it will take up on the Sony network but why can they not just let you create your first character for free and any other ones you make they can charge you for them separately? The answer of course is that the game developers and Sony want more money from you.
There is one problem with Sony's idea for getting more money out of the average gamer, you see to create a character for a game for the Playstation 2 it will cost say 55p but to create that same character for the same game on the PC it will cost you nothing at all. You see the developers of PC game's see online gaming as fun and a bit of a larf where people from all age groups come together to talk play and have general fun. The games developers are happy because they have made £40 per game sold and the gamers are happy because they can play there mates online for free on the games server that the developers have set up so the consumers of the game can have fun with their mates. Sony must see only money when it comes to online gaming otherwise they would only charge the monthly fee.
So why should we fork out all this money to play games online then? Well, it is not just games that are going to be on Sony's network. Other things such as music and videos will be accessible to listen to and download. Also Sony have plans to post demos of new games that are coming out online so instead of buying a demo disk you can just download it on to your hard drive, play it and when you are done playing you delete it from your hard drive, easy.
There are also planes to put full down loaderble games online so you don't even need to go to the shops any more you simply download the game and play, the cost of the game will be added to the monthly subscription bill at the end of the month. This is a really good idea because most online games you only need the disk to install the game and that's it.
The only problem with this is that what's going to happen to all the gaming shops and all the people who work in the shops?
> Now back to the fact of your eyes you either get a better monitor or
> get a life.
Well considering I'm using a 19" Dell monitor running at 1280 by 1024 that I've been using for the last 3 years, I also have perfect eye sight so that's not a problem.
As for me getting a life, I have one thanks! One in which I am able to post information on here in an intelligent and comprehendable way. I suggest you go back to school and take your English lessons again and learn how to write properly.
As for taking the p!ss out of people with dyslexia then your a very ignorant person (I was going to put something stronger but SR will ban me).

You can help it - Use paragraphs.
It is nothing to do with monitors, write so the stuff is legible. Quite simple really.
Use the space bar and the return button every now and then to space the posts out.
Now back to the fact of your eyes you either get a better monitor or get a life. As for the person with dyslexia, I can not help that but if the writting is to difficult to read get someone else to read it for or if that fails go to night classes.
I like other gamers have not got £100+ to spend on games and online equipment. I ask you why do Sony not make the online gaming free like most PC games do?
Sorry if there is too much writting but I really do think that Sony are going to rip the normal gamers off!!!
*note paragraph* ;D
Broadband access is now starting to take off in this country and will continue to do so. £30 per month, you need to do some shopping around mate, how about £20 per month....sound better, good glad it does. Oh and one other thing about BBand, if you live on a brand new housing estate with a digital connection to the exchange your stuffed because you need copper wiring for BBand to work :(
As for charging 55p for the creation of a character, what's up with you, it's 55p for gods sake, we're not talking the end of the world here are we. If you can afford a PS2, the hard drive, the network card, the game (FFXI) then another 55p isn't really that much now is it.
*will someone turn that bloody car alarm off please*
Online gaming is coming whether you like it or not, they're trying their best and I think you just need to be patient. Japan always get their stuff first, that's the way of the world and moaning on here isn't going to chage that fact.
Alternatively stick with a PC for online gaming and dont bother with the PS2 online games, the choice is yours.
