We finished shopping, so I decided to have a quick look in Woolworths and WHSmiths at the Gamecube and Game Boy Advance games. Oh yeah, quick tip: if the sale in Caerphilly's Woolworths is the same up and down the country then you'll be able to pick up the following GBA games for under £20 each:
- Broken Sword: Shadow of the Templars
- Earthworm Jim
- GT Advance
- Iridion 3D
- Jimmy Neutron: Boy Genius
- Mat Hoffman's Pro BMX
- Super Street Fighter II: Turbo Revival
- Tetris Worlds
- Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six: Rogue Spear
- Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2
- Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3
- Wolfenstein 3D
Anyways, back onto the story. While browsing the GBA games and looking like I knew what I was doing (HA!), my attention was caught by two young kids, who couldn't have been any older than 10 years. OK, what you are about to hear is a shocking example of how ignorant some people can be towards certain games consoles, and how they can display a complete lack of knowledge towards games up to an almost embarrassingly high level. Ready? OK, here goes:
1st kid - "Hey look, Luigi's Mansion! This looks good."
2nd kid - "Oh, that's for Gamecube. It's rubbish!"
1st kid - "Have you played it?"
2nd kid - "No."
Then the two kids walked off towards the PS2 stand, leaving me holding a Wolfenstein 3D box in my hand and foaming at the mouth in utter anger and disbelief.
OK, first point: Luigi's Mansion is NOT, I repeat NOT, rubbish. Granted, I haven't played it for too long (a few minutes in Dixons and that's about it) and it just didn't grab me as well as Smash Bros Melee or Wave Race... but it's certainly NOT a rubbish game. Second point: Note the 2nd kid's unique ability to possess "complete and expert" knowledge of a game he's never played? Bull! He is obviously either a PS2 or X-Box fan who thinks that Sony and Microsoft can do no wrong (no disrespect to PS2 and X-Box owners intended, but to be fair a lot of them are completely ignorant and brainwashed when it comes to their consoles).
So, after I'd calmed down and browsed some more, I moved onto WHSmiths. While they didn't have as many "bargain buys" as Woolworths did, I did spot these two GBA delights:
- Lady Sia for £12.99(!)
- Final Fight One for £19.99
So, again, I stood there browsing through the Gamecube and GBA games... then two boys who looked around 15 years old wandered over. Before I go on, the following facts need to be pointed out:
- they both had skateboards
- they both spoke in an INCREDIBLY strong Welsh accent
One of them had 40 quid to blow, and was on the lookout for a new Gamecube game. His friend was (wisely) urging him to buy Super Smash Bros Melee (nicely!) while the one wanting a new game was "um-ing and ah-ing" over whether or not to buy Spider-Man: The Movie. OK, here's a sample of the conversation they had (strong Welsh accents will be provided to the best of my ability):
1st kid - "Hey look, Spiiiiiider-Man!"
2nd kid - "Oh, that'll be rrrrubbiiish if it's anything like the PSOne Spiiiiider-Man game."
The Spider-Man game on the PSone may be crap (as much as I'd hate to admit it, being a Spidey fanatic) but that's only because it's being run on a dodgy console well past its' sell-by-date.
1st kid - "Oh rrright. What shall I get then? What's Suuuuper Monkey Ball liiike then?"
2nd kid - "Oh that's crap! What kinda game has mooooonkeys in balls anyway? Rrrrrubbish! It's probably crap!"
Argh! Notice the word "probably"? Meaning he hasn't even played it and is judging the game by its' title alone(!). He clearly has no knowledge of the Gamecube or Super Monkey Ball whatsoever, or he'd know that its' one of SEGA's most innovitive and addictive games ever.
So there we have it, ladies and gentlemen (and Mystique and Edgy)... at least 2 prime examples of how ignorant and downright / uninformed some people can be when it comes to consoles and games.
Beware these people, or you may end up missing out on a perfectly brilliant game.
Im happy *whistles*

Now why would I want to listen to you Strafex? ;)
Nah, only kidding, I may keep it...my mate showed me these really decent lights (blue light) that light up the screen really well, I may get those.
slik ~_~
I think ignorance is a defence mechanism for the stupid.
Oh and on a completely differant note, I just played Jedi Knight II and to be frank that game RULES.

Well if you'd listened to ME about a year back, I'd have told you that the GBA isn't offering much excitement because it's mostly Snes ports.
Still, keep it around for Metroid Fusion.
That game WILL rule.

er....no. I actually said Monkey Ball is probably more fun than Metal Gear, and I know it's graphically more impressive than the PS2. But it just doesn't have the games for me, and if people are calling PS2 owners brainwashed then I'm afraid I have to reply.
Oh yes, and I totally agree with Turbo's 'statement' too. {:)
They're so funnnnyyy.
