Okay, I was joking (but if you have one spare...). I have £500, and am planning on getting a GC - however I can get that and still get an Xbox, but is it worth it? That's why I'm asking you guys. I don't want Microsft speil, I want actual Xbox owners, impartial opinion.
Thank you.
> Sony are holding back developers from making an XBOX title

Sony have no control over what independent developers do.
> Remotely? Thats a tad harsh
Like I said, it's my opinion. Harsh or not, I don't care if people agree with it.
> I feel you just havn't looked hard enough.
I can't do much more than look at every game and decide whether or not it appeals to me. I can't believe you're covering the sme things that we've already been over and over and agreed to disagree on!
> Number 1, what the hell do sales have to do with it?
Quite simple. Xbox sales are far lower than expected, and developers realise that they aren't going to get enough cash from them unless they go multi-format with them.
Microsoft obviously haven't paid for the exclusivity, otherwise the companies wouldn't be able to do it; the companies just believed that everyone would jump on the Xbox bandwagon and they'd therefore make a lot of money, as they would developing for PS2 only... and it hasn't happened.
> And open your eyes a bit here, have you forgot the literly dozens of
> PS2 exclusives which are now coming to xbox ie Metal Gear, Virtua
> Fighter, Frontline, need I go on?
Whether you go on or not is entirely up to you, my friend!
The difference with these cross-overs is that the games you mention have been out for PS2 and been played; i.e. there was reason to own a PS2 to play them. Of the four Xbox titles I mentioned which are now coming to PS2, three are yet to be released for the Xbox, and one (Wreckless) is coming to PS2 with gameplay improvements.
> I don't agree.
Fair enough, I don't need you to agree - I'm simply presenting RM18 with a non-fanboy point of view. I have the machine, am unimpressed by the software - it is in my view a sobering alternative to the fanboy posts - comment from someone who isn't awestruck by the "awesome superiority" of the Xbox.
> I would just like to point out how opinions can differ
If you understand that, why do you have a problem with my opinion?
> Savatt got rid of his GC very quickly because he didn't like it.
Of course, and I can accept that - good luck to Savatt - he's obviously happy with the Xbox, or rather he's happy with the software. I don't have a problem with that at all. But because he dropped GC in favour of Xbox, that's okay with you.
My opinion is "wrong" because I don't agree? My opinion differs to that of most people in this forum, that's all. I'm not saying the Xbox is crap, because it isn't. If I thought it was, I'd say so.
The ONLY thing I am saying is that AT THIS MOMENT IN TIME, it doesn't have enough strong titles to warrant buying one, and that I'm disappointed about that - especially as it's now over three months since it was launched.
Answer me this: how many people, thinking that PS2's launch line-up was poor, delayed buying one until more, better software was available?
I know from what I've read on here that it was quite a few. Did you have a problem with that at the time? If not, then why do you have a problem with me advising someone to do the same with Xbox?
I Dont like the PS2 either, The Graphics are'nt as good as the mighty xbox and Sony are holding back developers from making an XBOX title becuase they don't want the PS2 to lose sales & intrest.
XBOX is my kinda console: Good Games, Good Graphics, Loads of Sound Options, Broadband Internet, DVD Player, Hard Drive. And I dont see anything wrong with the XBOX launch titles. Halo- Whats wrong with Halo? Thats Awesome. And games are Churning out fast. Wookie, You said it'd be better to wait until Christmas, well i'd find it better to get the console now with a few games, and for christmas get even more games so you have a console with lots of brilliant games instead of waiting until xmas.
> Now before anyone shouts me down or Garbe posts his damn list again, >RM18 wanted opinions on Xbox from owners, so I'm giving mine. Most of you >probably won't like it, so you may as well stop reading now.
>Well, RM18... it's just you and me now...
And Me :P
>Others have and will advise you to go for it, but I won't. Even though >you can easily afford it, I recommend holding on to your money until >around Christmas at the earliest.

Remotely? Thats a tad harsh, given that alot of the games now, be they multiformat all recieved 90% scores when they were released on PS2. If they really are good, surely they are just as good on Xbox, in fact a bit better. While software will get alot better later in the year there still are titles now worth looking at, I feel you just havn't looked hard enough.
Sorry.

Number 1, what the hell do sales have to do with it? You are bringing in aspects which are not relevent. And open your eyes a bit here, have you forgot the literly dozens of PS2 exclusives which are now coming to xbox ie Metal Gear, Virtua Fighter, Frontline, need I go on?

I don't agree.
>My Xbox hasn't been switched on for about nine or ten weeks now, and I >don't foresee that changing any time soon. Meanwhile, my PS2 and Gamecube >are getting regular use.
I would just like to point out how opinions can differ, Savatt got rid of his GC very quickly because he didn't like it.
>While I'm tempted to sell my Xbox, I've decided to keep it until January >- if there's nothing worthwhile by that time, I shall abandon all hope >and cut my losses.
Fare enough, I just feel if you looked more deeply into the up and comming line up you would find there loads of potentialy great titles.
>If you wait until around Xmas to see what becomes available, you'll be in >a much better position to make up your mind. The current 'essential' >titles may well be available at lower prices, and - if things don't >improve - you might even get the machine for less... maybe even buy mine >off me! ;-p
You could get you XBox now, play the great games and get XBoxLive+games later in the year.
Well, RM18... it's just you and me now...
Others have and will advise you to go for it, but I won't. Even though you can easily afford it, I recommend holding on to your money until around Christmas at the earliest.
While there's nothing wrong with the machine itself, the good launch titles remain the only ones worth buying three and a half months after launch. It seems to be generally accepted (fanboys excepted, of course) that the next titles even remotely worth looking at will not be appearing until September at the very earliest.
Meanwhile, previously Xbox-exclusive titles (Wreckless, Enclave, Splinter Cell and Malice) have been announced for other platforms; there's been no real explanations, but it would be fair to assume that this is because Xbox sales are not as expected.
I believe you already have a PS2, so I'd recommend you forget about Xbox for now, and get a Gamecube. The Xbox won't be significantly different from PS2 in terms of software, and at the moment is let down by what little IS available; the Gamecube at least offers something different. Stick the rest of your money in your bank account and let it earn you some interest.
My Xbox hasn't been switched on for about nine or ten weeks now, and I don't foresee that changing any time soon. Meanwhile, my PS2 and Gamecube are getting regular use.
While I'm tempted to sell my Xbox, I've decided to keep it until January - if there's nothing worthwhile by that time, I shall abandon all hope and cut my losses.
If you wait until around Xmas to see what becomes available, you'll be in a much better position to make up your mind. The current 'essential' titles may well be available at lower prices, and - if things don't improve - you might even get the machine for less... maybe even buy mine off me! ;-p
Games for the system so far are good, many at the moment are some ports from the PS2. Disapointing in a way but I agree with Savatt1668, the Autumn and Winter months should see the arrival of more great games, not to mention XboxLive.
Problems? Nothing really. Apart from the Reward Pack, which is taking ages to arrive. Only other minor niggle I can think of at the moment is that during DVD movies, the *humming* of the console itself can be a bit intrusive during quiet parts. Thats it.
To me there is a limited number of great titles right now (although as Tom said, these alone warrant the purchase), but I see the coming months being the time that the great titles really start to pour out for the console. Plenty of great Sega titles on the way along with some top quality FPS, sports and action games all on the way. :-)
As for problems, the only one I've encountered so far is the trouble I had with Fifa World Cup 2002. If you want a look at what happened then I wrote a post a couple of days ago about it which shouldn't be too hard to find. But going over it, I really think its down to some sloppy programming on EA's part. Not saying that to be biased or anything but there weren't any scratches on the 2 games I went through (took it back and changed it once) and as for the X-Box console, on most occasions of having the problems I went straight into playing other games for around 3 hours non stop straight after with no problems whatsoever.
So far thats the only game thats given me trouble, everything else has worked perfectly and believe me, the console definatly gets a workout everyday. ;-) I think a truly great football game is one thing the X-Box is missing right now but I wouldn't be surprised to see the likes of a Pro Evo game make an appearance in the near future. Plus of course some like the manager sims, right now there Championship Manager and LMA 2003 is on the way too. :-) ISS2 is also available but like I said, its not going to make your jaw drop. Microsoft seem to be working very hard on aquiring titles for X-Box though so I doubt it'll be long before theres a large number of choices on most if not all genres.
1. Lots of SEGA exclusives [I'm a big SEGA fan] like Jet Set Radio Future, the Shenmue series, Crazy Taxi 3: High Roller, Panzer Dragoon, Toejam & Earl, GunValkyrie, and others.
2. The hard-drive. As well as ripping the music of your choice over compatible games such as Project Gotham Racing and Tony Hawks 3, the hard-drive can be used by developers to create new kinds of gameplay. For example like in the forthcoming "mascot" game BLINX, where because the game is stored in the hard-drive the player can fast-forward and rewind the game and play through the levels however he wants completing tasks in a random order.
3. The massive potential of XBOX Live - online gaming.

As for having any problems, I haven't actually had anything wrong with the console itself. The only thing that slightly annoyed me was Microsoft's attitude towards the Reward Pack.
I love the Xbox, and the games I have will last me a long time. Addmitidly, there doesn't seem to be many good games coming out in the future. But, in my oppinion, the games out now warrent the purchase of an Xbox.
