Why leave now? Just as pre-season training as got under way.
Must have been some major bust-up.
Although, I can understand why they would want to get rid of him. Especially after spending all that cash and not having a single trophy to show for it...

I thought that they were around £60 million in debt and same for Chelsea.
I was a bit suprised that O'Leary had not quit earlier because of the pressures of off the pitch incidents and poor performance of the team. I expect that they may let Brian Kidd take charge and see what he can do as he has had experience before.
On Team Talk they are already on about how Leeds have possible Managers lined up.

THe initial Press release that Leeds gave out said that O'Leary and Leeds parted on some mutual consent thing.
The Leeds Communication geezer or somthin said later that O'leary was sacked.
Everyone go have a look, trust me, it is FUNNY!
(Incidentally, it's worth going to Teamtalk.com as they have a less-then-flattering picture of O'Leary on the main page! :-)

O'Leary in shock Leeds exit ^top
David O'Leary has been sacked by Leeds following a meeting with chairman Peter Ridsdale at Elland Road today.
The news brings an end to the Irishman's four years in charge at the club, who failed to qualify for this season's Champions League.
Ridsdale said in a statement: "Leeds United Plc today announces that David O'Leary, manager of Leeds United Football Club has left the company by mutual consent.
"After four successful years, the pressures of some of the off-field incidents have resulted in both the company and Mr O'Leary agreeing that it would be of mutual benefit for a change of manager.
"It is hoped that an announcement regarding a successor can be announced in the next few weeks.
"Leeds United would like to place on record its thanks for David's enormous contribution over the last four years."
O'Leary's exit could possibly centre around the speculation surrounding the future of Leeds' star defender Rio Ferdinand, who the Irishman bought from West Ham for £18million.
O'Leary last week went on the record to say he was desperate to keep hold of Ferdinand, but the board admitted they would consider selling him to suitors Manchester United if the Old Trafford club submitted an offer they could not turn down.
Sir Alex Ferguson is believed to be lining up a £30million bid for Ferdinand, who has himself admitted that he is very "disappointed" and "shocked" by the news.
He told Sky Sports: "It's a massive shock and I'm very disappointed. He (O'Leary) was the one who paid a lot of money for me and was brilliant with me."
