I know what i am getting myself into with already one mouthful from a handful of people but i am no trying to show people the reasons I BELIEVE that the PS2 will reign supreme.
You can compare the three console all you want on specs but specs are just pretty computer jargon to make the console sound the fastest thing in the world. Do you care how many frames per second your games are running at when you are playing sumthing as adictive as Tetris. Graphics and Power are not everything in a console and this is the lesson that the Xbox is now learning the hard way.
I am finding the "console wars" extremely interesting at the moment because all three consoles are extremely different and are going for completely different audiences and using different means of grabbing peoples attention. This is shown through the games released as big sellers and the way the console is marketed. Yet is is nice to see more than ever the consoles "sharing" games between them that will sell well all around.
Xbox
The Xbox's main point ever since it was announced has been POWER. How often do you hear about how powerful the xbox is.. or how good the graphics are on the Xbox... This has been the way they are attempting to sell the machines.
Look at Halo claiming to be the best looking and most powerful game ever. How many people do you think have bought and Xbox singlehandedly for this game. No where did they talk about the longitivity and replay value of the game. We are evolving as gamers and need sumthing to do when we have finished the game once.
The Xbox is aiming for a more grown up audience hence the older type of games and the biggest selling points being games like "Dead or Alive 3" "Halo" and games along these lines. Unfortunately graphics have proven are not everything people need gameplay... and now the biggest selling games on the Xbox are PS2 ports the console is not reaching expectations purely because it only met its hype and all that was hyped was graphicsn which is basically all that we got and will be getting for a while.
I know alot of you hardcore Xbox fans disagree but you are very close minded and think just because it is Xbox it is good. Be real you can see there is no more than a handful of AAA must have titles on the lineup and some are ports.
I have already said what i think of Xbox and i believe they can do so much better but they need more variety in the games and alot more gameplay.
GameCube
The Gamecube is the newest member to range war and doing an superb job. Coming in at only £130 was a good move and one alot of people have gone for. The specs are slightly higher than the PS2 but still lacking the massive power that is the Xbox... The Gamecube also doesnt have a DVD player or a hardrive unfortunately as they are all about games. The biggest difference is the size it is tiny and with the extra small cds making piracy v. difficult you have to decide yourself if that is a good or bad thing.
The gamecubes main feature in my opinion is almost its biggest turn off, but one yo can easily get past. The GameCube has got such a range of an audience that it has stuck to the nintendos "childish" image to a certain degree. This is apparent with the main big selling games at the moment of "luigi's mansion" "super monkey ball" and "pikmin" with the best batch of "zelda" and "mario sunshine" coming through. The Gamecube is about gameplay so once you get past the cheesy graphics 9 times outta 10 you find a top qualtity attadictive game that will be picked up again and again.
However i do not believe the GC is aiming for a younger audience at all... Zelda is not a kids game likewise mario games are for all ages. And with the arrival of Resident Evil 0 the GC is showing it can be as grown up as the next console. It has cleverly marketed itself as the pure games console and kept its target audience as wide as possible.
In my opinion the Nintendo's lineup is looking the best... The amount of AAA must have games is great and nintendo are looking 2 make up for the 64. I believe they have the talent and the ability to do well. With the originality that Nintendo bring to the table i beleive that they can finish a good 2nd place.
However i still think the winner will be Sony

Yes the console has been out for along time AND... so what... yes it had a poor start but not sony has got on its feet you have such classics as..
Final Fantasy X
Medal Of Honour: Frontline
Virtua Fighter 4
Gran Turismo 3
to name a few They have already got the foundations and hardwork that the other 2 consoles have got to go through now done. The games to come while not having as many AAA titles as hoped will still impress. with "Final Fantasy XI" entering sony into the online world and the mighty "Tekken 4" coming out later this year i cannot see sony losing to anybody for choice of quality games, even nintendos mighty efforts i believe may be too late 4 the reign.
Sony like Xbox are aiming at a slightly older age but the thing that sony have done that no other company has done since nintendo with the SNES. Is make gaming POPULAR again, not just that but the playstation is now a household name everywhere and sony have made gaming "cool" which is good for everyone including the competition.
I can agree with people talking about Xbox being the underdogs like sony once were but the PS was not released as far after. And yes saturn looked good at the time but once again sony concentrated on gameplay instead of graphics and did it. Unforunately the PS2 has got such a headstart it is hard to see how anything can change...
Once again these are just my opinions and im sure ive missed alot but im tired...

Its all about what u prefer really. I prefer the PS2 as it has a constant amount of good ORIGINAL games. The reason i dont like Nintendo is because they tend to- Release a couple of original games, then copy them until we get bored. Also they same characters in every game. Super Monkey Ball was great but i bet ya now there will be a SMB2 SMB3, 4, 5, gold edition, SMB in paris...ect. Its what nintendo always seem to do. We want variety and choice. We have a PS2 in one room and GC in another room. Different consoles with different games and more importantly different types of games.
This is my opinion and reflects the games we have bought but the GC is more of a social console for us and Nintendo are great at producing the totally nuts multiplayer games which cause no end of laughter when we play them. The PS2 is a more serious console and will remain that way for us.
I know other people will disagree but -- I dont care....

One thing i dont really understand, and one thing thats been said alot for all the time i have been on SR is why do 'we' the gamers always have to feel that there has to be a number one console out there? Thats not for us to worry about right? Thats for Sony, Nintendo ect to worry about, its in there interest to be the best console company out there. Surely its in our interest that there is more than one big console out there, isnt it better to have 3 very good consoles giving us great games to play all year than just one console?

A good point and i see alot of thought has been put into this BUT:
A) this has been done too many times now
B) this is your 5th or 6th topic made today
C) if there was only 1 winner than there would only be one console due to bankrupty. It has happened to sega but that was because their saturn was Cr@p. Most consoles aern't so therefore survive the war.
D) if you are tired than go to sleep.
