I have noticed that on this site there have been a lot of gamers that have voiced their opinions about girl gamers, and I thought that Id put across my opinion too, espically as I dont really want to scroll through the mountains of posts based on the particular subject!
I think that its not the fact that there are not games about Barbie and the Spice Girls( which I think are really sissy by the way) that discourage girls like me from playing games, its that it seems to be thought that we are not encouraged enough to start to play games because of the fact that the boys think that we should go out and buy clothes and shoes rather than buying a console game that we would like to play. I myself like most types of games, my favourite that my boyfriend has is Gran Turismo 2, and I cant wait for him a Playstation 2 so that I can then play Gran Turismo 3.
I also like playing games with my male mates like Goldeneye where we can take our frustrations out on my mates and spill some blood. I really love horror movies you see!!! What I believe is that there is a stereotype that girls arent supposed to play games, but just to wear make-up and tight fitting skirts and clothes and go pull the blokes and look 'oh so pretty' than to play games and I think this is unfair. There are girls out there who like to play games that dont just wear denim jeans and look a right tomboy, its just that when we look a bit feminine the boys tend to just say "shouldnt you be out getting some more shoes!". I think us girls should be given a chance to play games, you never know, wed probably be better than the lot of you, just look at the exam results!!!

Girls play games? Yeah of course and they have a great laugh like us too.
The only thing is they hate First Person shooters (they think PD is too gory!) but they love racing, platformers and most fighting games so what's wrong with a bit of extra competition?

Come on guys and girls, cant we all just get along? Stop all this petty bickering and lets get back to what we do best, whether it be boy or girl, black or white, and thats to PLAY GAMES!!!

Hey! That's a stupid comment from the girl with 2A's and a B because not all men are stupid! Infact if that was the case then we wouldn't have electricity to play computer games with, we wouldn't have schools, colleges, and other educational facilities. Your last comment "So shove that" shove what where?

Get your facts straight! Boys are just as good as girls! No one is better! Exam results prove nothing! (I haven't done my exams yet but I will be soon!

Excuse me but this proves the point that all men are stupid. Get your facts right before making comments. For the past few years, girls have surpassed boys at both GCSE and A level. I should know this being a girl who got 2 As and 1 B at A level (and one of these is sociology and therefore should know the differences of achievement between girls and boys). So shove that!

Its great sometimes to come on here and find girls who actually have a bit of intelligence when talking.

In my school, there were probably three girls that got A's in the GCSE's. So you understand why I find it odd to talk to intelligent women.

There is a stereotype with girls, but then the stereotype works both ways too. There is the misperception that only boys play computer games, and only boys like action movies. In the same way that all boys love football, and all boys think about is sex.

(No, I think, if I look around in here, there isn't much else but that.)

The same way, stereotypical wise, that only childish kids have N64's, and all games on the N64 are for kids.

Look at the Simpsons. It is a cartoon, yes, but it is also very funny, and is enjoyed by adults and children alike. Does that mean that anybody that watches it is childish?

Far from it. I suppose then, that if we to believe that everything said was to be true, then only boys over 15 would play playstations, and no girls would play games, anyone under 15 has a N64, and no-one ever, has a Dreamcast.

I agree with you totally (I am male for those who don't know).

Although I knew some girls who had never played a games machine in their lives and they said that they LOOKED boring.

Everytime I see my cousin she wants to play CPU games with me! It doesn't matter what console as she doesn't mind! We usually play the N64 and PC though but sometimes we play the SNES because it has more gameplay.

I think that games companies are also stereotypical. They bring out games like Barbie for the girls but that's just about it. Most the games I've got are designed for boys but I'm sure girls would like them just as much!

I also think that games companies should make some games for all ages! I'm sick of people saying that Nintendo makes games for 3 year olds! Nintendo haven't made any N64 games just for young kids! I'd say that the games without nearly naked girls and intestines flying out of dying bodies should be classfied as for "All Ages"

But anyway I think it's great that girls also like playing games as computers are the future (and the present)! I don't like playing games just against a few boys who all think alike! I like to play games against and with someone with a different way of seeing games!

I don't agree with the part about exam results though! Most boys in my school just can't be bothered with the exams and purposely not bother with them and therefore fail. Surely you should have noticed that!
