Mos**t of you will probably be aware of certain hos**tilities between groups of youths in our country. We have seen the forming of ‘gangs’ around various musical genres. There are two main types involved in these hos**tilities, the dance/garage/house etc. fans and the metal/nu-metal, kerrang fans. Some of you may have read an earlier topic I wrote here in the music forum, regarding hos**tilities between these two groups called ‘Warring Factions’. It was basically about how the kerrang fans always seem to play the victims. In an issue of the Kerrang magazine a few months ago there was an article about how rock fans are always picked on, getting abuse yelled at them, and in extreme cases attacked. Kerrang also often get letters with readers complaining about how they are always picked on and s**tuff. My other topic was basically jus**t saying that a lot of these Kerrang / nu-metal fans are hos**tile to others anyway, they’re not all the victims, some are dealing out the abuse.

Well, with the lates**t Kerrang mag they said next week they’re giving away some s**tickers. There was a picture displaying some of them. One s**ticker reads ‘Townies = sh*t’ (a ‘clever’ play on a slipknot song or lyric I believe, ‘People = sh*t’). Now what’s that about? Kerrang, ever playing up the apparent fact that the kerrang fans are victims here are now dishing out s**tickers in order to provoke the ‘opposition’. And you can bet at leas**t some of the whiners will use these s**tickers, misguidedly thinking they are ‘fighting back’ agains**t the ‘enemy’ they have created, when all it is doing is provoking things. It’s truly moronic. They claim the moral high ground going on with all this crap about how they welcome variety (because so many people seem to be obsessed with being ‘different’ rather than being themselves) and they can’t be the ones causing the hos**tilities. Then they go printing this bull, which is going to serve no purpose but to heighten tensions, and maybe get a few of their readers beaten up.

It truly makes me wonder about the s**tate of our country (as if there wasn’t enough to worry about already) when musical tas**te becomes such a big issue for the youth of today. What is the problem with everyone jus**t lis**tening to what they want, dressing how they want, and not slating others because they don’t belong to the same group?

Some people really are total morons.

Yeah, I know what you mean about the lifestyle malarky and magazines totally missing the point by giving these labels like 'townie' and stuff. Ironically these are the people who would be the first to protest if you gave them any kind of label...

Anyway, yeah, the key word was SOME, because I understand that it is not all of them (and most likely is a minority) in both groups.

Rock is a lifestyle/state of mind.

It's about doing what you want, how you want and not giving anyone any grief for doing their thing.

It would appear that a lot of "rock" magazines miss the point.

'My other topic was basically just saying that a lot of these Kerrang / nu-metal fans are hostile to others anyway, they’re not all the victims, some are dealing out the abuse.'

SOME is the keyword here. I suppose you would call me a Kerranger - I listen to Metal and Rock and have my own band but I'm not into any of the crazy stuff that some of these guys do, like setting themselves on fire and starting fights.

I think that both 'townies' and 'Kerrangers' are to blame. If neither of them start arguments and just respect each other's beliefs and stop facking about, then there will be no problem.

Play nice kiddies :P

yeah, that's what I meant about the kerrang people so often playing the victim but then a lot of the time they are just as bad.

At my local pub/ rock venue I went there and was waiting for the bands to come on, and saw two people in what you may call 'townie' clothing and I just went and talked to them, partly because they were some of the few people who didn't seem to be in a large group and it's easier to go up and talk to one or two people than a big group and I doubt the beer did me any harm in making me go talk to them either ;-)

And they were fine. So that was good.

I don't think you'd class me as a townie but neither as a mosher either. Anyway, me and a few mates went to a rock club a few weeks ago dressed as we usually do for town. We went up into the rock floor and got the DJ to play loads of stuff we were into in the early 90s. So, when they came on, we were moshing to the stuff and all these moshers, who were in the gear, were disgusted with us. It was cool.....

Thanks to Mr.Happy for summarising what I was feeling. I think you probably explained it and put it into words better than I did.

heh, cheers, anyway, if anyone else replies, I won't reply to your reply (if you get my meaning...) because I'm going to sleep... I'll reply sometime tomorrow if there's any more interest in this here topic.

My final thought for the day: Check my tagline...

No I would'nt put the sticker on.

Whats the point! Just pis*es people off as you say, starts needless arguments among the poeple that take it seriously. And I dont take NU-METAL seriously at all. I do like other types of music, as a matter of fact, my favourite female artist is Alicia Keys and my favourite male artist is Kid Rock.
And why would a 17 year old guy want with stupid stickers like that anyway (I know a few people who would though).
