I saw this in the South Wales Echo (local newspaper) yesterday in their letters page, and I thought it was so funny that it had to be posted here.
So here it is:
"On Thursday afternoon I had the most uplifting experience on a bus in St. Mary Street, Cardiff.
We were jammed in at the side of the street for ages because, as we were informed by the driver, the Queen was due to drive by down the street.
People were grtting visibly annoyed. Then a man at the front of the bus turned and said: "We're stuck here because of her. What has she ever done for Wales?" The question was greeted with a loud chorus of: "Nothing!"
"Quite right," said our new found spokesman. "Here she comes, let's give her a good old Welsh welcome!"
I was at the back of the bus by the window and clearly saw the Queen's face as her car shot by.
She was looking towards the bus and I will never forget her look of astonishment as this busload of people waved two fingers at her.
A man in front of me quickly scribbled 'Boo' on a piece of paper and held it to the window!
A tourist sitting near me, Italian I think, just looked baffled (as the Queen did) at this display Welsh affection for Her Majesty.
If I needed proof that away from carefully orchestrated events there is little support for the monarchy among ordinary people, then this was it."

If there actually existed someone who was Welsh and famous, and we treated them like that, we'd be labelled bigots...
