Sega = Sonic
Nintendo = Mario
What is playstations or even xbox's. Have consoles forget about doing this now
"Oh cool, I'll pick that up. I've enjoyed all the previous games and it will definatly be of high quality".
The same thing applies to other games obviously, look how many idiots still run out and buy FIFA games, when ISS2/Pro Evo are soooo much better. It's just because there weren't really any other decent football games in about 1995 then FIFA came along and made a decent football game. Since then people who bought the first couple of ones still buy the crappy graphical updates of FIFA '98. The only difference with the Sonic/Mario games is that the new ones are still really good games. And Final Fantasy, as soon as Playstation owners hear that FFXI or whatever has been announce they put it down on their wish list.
> Is'nt Crash Bandicoot supposed to be the playstation mascot thingy?
> Even though he has went to the X - Box
And the GameCube.
And the Game Boy Advance.
So it'd have to be Sony's mascot is Ford Focus Rally or some other car.
:D
> Ai Fukami
Now that is a dirty name if ever there was one.
It was Crash on the PSX...
Then when the PS2 came out the girl form the original set of Ridge Racers became the mascot. The new Ridge Racer girl to replace her was Ai Fukami (or something like that).
Alex, stop spamming
Sonic
There are so many games in the PlayStation's history that have created strong characters and/or brands, that it would be hard to choose one anyway.
Personally, when I think of "PlayStation", I don't think of any particular character, game or mascot. I think of Tomb Raider, Resident Evil, Wipeout, Gran Turismo - among many others - all of which were strong games which helped make the machine(s) so popular.
Thus I don't think it would be right to choose one above any other.
In fact, the strongest symbol of PlayStation is the very name itself, and the symbols - Triangle, Circle, Cross and Square. I think the very fact that Sony have done so well without a consistent 'figurehead' says a lot about the strength of the brand identity they've built up.
