dont ask how or why. it was on the weakestlink
What we need is a 3D way to view things, in which we can happily look around and behind us. So, VR goggles look like the weapon of choice- with motion sensors they can move dependent on where your head is facing, allowing you full 360 viewing, and depth in the gaming world.
Now, as for this 4D nonsense...
When you say the 4th dimension, you can either be talking about a 4th SPACIAL dimension- one that is at right angles to the other 3, or a 4th TEMPORAL dimension- time.
Now, we will never be able to percieve an extra spacial dimension. Imagine trying to show a 2D being what 3D was... it's impossible because they live in a 2D place!
The spacial dimension element in gaming does exist- Zelda OOT used 2 time zones as its setting, the former affecting the latter.
Sonic
It was/still is going to be with regard to things like Shenmue, Pikmin, Majora's Mask, GTA3 etc.
I'll write it one day......

I suppose.
That means that we already have a several 4 dimensional games like Pikmin, Zelda: Majora's Mask and Shenmue.
I suppose any game that distinguishes from night and day and has a progressing day could be called 4D...
Pokémon Gold had this (limited use of the 4th dimension but it was there).
But Pokémon is a 2D game!
So does that make Pokémon Gold a 3D game with the 4th dimension instead of the first?

I did find it jumped around quite a bit at times, If ound the page I got the link from to be a little more concise (if less cosmetially appealing)...

They first appeared in Star Wars IV as the chess board on the Falcon. The "HoloDeck" wasn't intorduced untill STNG which was about 15 odd years later! Star Wars win this one!:-)
As for 4D, I though it was an AV product range from Sony;)

Well, philosophically-speaking, the 4th dimension could indeed be time... but that's uncertain ground.
As for 5D, 6D... mankind will have to evolve for a LONG time before anyone figures out how that would work.
