I've been trying to update a website for the last hour, and I keep getting nothing but timeouts and errors. The status page says there are no problems, and it's getting frustrating now.

Any staff know of problems, or any users having the same problems?

Maybe the servers are down, then again I don't know what a 425 error is.

OH I know know........... maybe your just stupid?!?!?! Calling the Folder 'data' but in the Scripts refereing to it as 'Data'. lol.

I don't really have any idea as to why it wouldn't work before, as all it was was a re-nameing?!?!? Who knows, but the main thing it you got it workign :o)

I always put data files into a Secret Folder within the Root, rather than in the htdocs or cgi-shi folder and have never had problems with renaming and moving, so maybe do it like that next time!?!?!?

No, I had the full path... I just couldn't be bothered typing it all out! :-)

When you previously refered to the stuff in the data folder, did you juse had /data/filename??? As I think on a Server like Freeola's and in the cgi-bin, any files must be refered to using the full path, i.e. /freeola/users/0/0/sr000000/cgi-shi/comments/data/filename.

Well seeing as you got it working, guess that is irrelevant now, lol. But well done :o)

All sorts of things.

I had the main scripts in a 'cgi-bin/comments' directory, and the data files in 'cgi-bin/comments/data'.

First off I got the Freeola error page saying that there was a problem with the script. Then the script ran but told me it couldn't find the data files.

So I checked all the locations, which were okay. Checked the installation instructions for permissions settings on both files and directory, and they were okay. But it was having none of it.

So I moved the data files from the 'data' directory into the 'comments' directory, changed the three main scripts accordingly, and now everything works just fine!

Bloody weird! But it's working now. Thanks anyway!

Better check it then, just in case :o).

Now when you say not working, how do you mean???
Erroor messages, no data being written to the file, or retreaved from the file???

This maybe stupid, but have you got the CHMOD settings correct?

Also...

Have you ever had problems with the server 'losing' a subdirectory of the cgi-bin?

I have been playing around with a free Guestbook script, which was working perfectly. It was in a subdir called 'guestbook', but as I'm going to be using it for comments from people who have bought things, rather than as a standard guestbook, I changed the directory name to 'comments'.

I've amended all scripts accordingly, but I keep getting errors saying either the script or the files it uses don't exist.

I've even tried re-installing the script (it comes with its own installer), which reports no problems with anything, but still it doesn't work. I've checked and re-checked permissions etc.

I had this once before when installing the Forum script I use on my own website. I changed the directory name, updated everything, and it stopped working. Re-installed it to another dir and it was fine.

It's strange, and extremely annoying, as it only seems to be the web side that can't access the scripts.

No idea, matey - I've got FTP Voyager, so I never use it.

The error messages last night suggested using PASV mode if you got errors during a LIST, so I did that and things seemed to improve.
