Hi Freeola

Mrs Digi set up a new instant site a month ago and then went off on her travels to NZ - before she left me and one of my sons had left a comment on her blog page, on her return from NZ there are 39 comments - the two we left and 37 spam! prozac viagra the lot!

How did that happen? I thought these instant sites were more secure?

We're looking at adding the human question thing and other measures if required. Captcha worked for a long time but was the cracked so I expect newer methods will be as well given time. We're always one step behind the spammers unfortunately.

The most success we've had has been with questions, what colour is the sky, what colour is grass, whats one plus one and so on. That took us from heavily spammed to no spam at all. And its been that way for over 6 months now so not exactly showing any signs of adapting either.
Colour coding also works (only type the red letters etc.) but obvious not so good for colour blind people.

Personally, I prefer a good old fashioned keyword filter though. :)

Fixed the problem that was causing this. The site cache was not being rebuilt when a comment was deleted.

You may like to turn on comment moderation on your site via the Page Settings link on the blog edit page. You will then be alerted to any new comments that people (or spammers) submit every time you login to edit your site. This may put the spammers off as their posts will never be live.

I have removed the offending comments - one at a time as I can't see an option to select then delete - but they are still there! And I am deleting 'live' so how come????

perhaps insecure is not the correct word then? but either way she was most annoyed - as you say you need to fill in letters before you can blog so this should have removed these offers of Viagra etc bloody spammers! why do they do it? why do they not put there efforts into writing sofware that benefits the world instead of causing mayhem.

They are but unfortunately, as you may have read, it seems that spammers have managed to crack many of the Captcha (the image of random letters we ask you to fill in) systems. We are looking into alternatives at the moment.
If you have spam on your blog this does not mean you site is insecure.
