wow! thanks for that. i dont think my usability section is really quite clear enough. basically what im aiming to do is to do a complete usability test on the web sites i make for free, and not stop designing until its as good as i can make it. clients just like receiving a document telling them the good things about their site.

what i do do however is offer to do usability tests on sites people already have - i can either make changes or simply highlight problems.

thanks for your constructive feedback though - its greatly appreciated.

Nice site over all, but I think your understanding of Usability needs looking into a little.

Firstly, I hate people who are trying to "sell" Usability to clients especially when it's the designers responsibility to ensure that the product is useable, it is not down to the client, especially when many of them do not understand the concept. usability testing is an important part of site creation, but the actual concept and responsibility lies with the Designer and no-one else.

On the other hand, I do beleive in Usability Consultancy (Part of my Job), as this is a service being offered to improve an exisiting process or site based on the current performance.

Usability is about what it says, the user experience, how the user gets from a to b, how they acheive their aims without gettin glost and confused in the proces. it is not about the technology behind the site, not about DHTML, CSS, ASP etc etc.

I have spent the last 2 years studying Usability, I've even written a paper on it and specialisze in it at work, I've even questioned the Guru himself, Jakob Neilsen and argued his own theories on it.

It is an ever increasing part of web site creation, but not something we should be "selling" to the client, especially when it's still in it's infancy. No one has yet to truly define "Usability", though as I know already, your are already familisr with HCI and, even possibly, Human Mind Mapping and Subcontious Navigation?

Don't get me wrong, I do like your site, though personally, I wouldn't say this was 100% usable (Resolution being one, and navigation positioning being another), and in light of this, I would suggest romoving your "Usability" section until you have had more "real world" experience with it. I'm not saying every site I have ever built conforms to the basic principles of usability, but I don't preach about it on my own sites either, especially when offering it as a service form a site which fails in some areas.

Apologies if I have seemed a little harsh, but i though this would be different from the usual "Nice Logo" and "nice font there". It's obvious to me that you have a flare there for doing something you have a passion for, don't loose that passion, but along with this, I also feel that you have moved beyond the usual feedback on the basic and need more constructive feedback of the advanced kind...

Keep up the awesome work... you have put some of them on here to shame already. And hopefully, I'll be coming to you soon for some help, especially with XML.

i rely on word of mouth, and thanks to the community web site i made, i have quite a good reputation around the town with the chamber of trade & commerce, town council, district council etc.

however, i am hoping to get some business through search engines. so far i have simply used my web site so i can refer people to it to see examples of what i do, prices, contact me etc - as i do not have a business address. if on Google u search for "UK Web Site Designer" [keep quotes] then i come up ranked 5th. :-D

people don't seem to mind me being young. i think because i have a good reputation and i live locally, people see me as a good web designer, not a young one. i am dedicated to my work, and do my best to make the best sites i can, as cheaply as i can/want ;) [i have no overheads, so all my money is profit - i like it!!] lol

Generally I like it. I think the only points I'd make have already been made, ie, too much text on the pages, and your pricing would be confusing to somebody who didn't now what they really wanted. I think the idea of offering packages is a good one.

Apart from that, on another note, how do you find business. I know you are fairly young, and you don't have a "business" address, how do you find people are with you when you are talking about building a web site for them?

When I hover over the tabs, internet explorer kindly tells me what the picture is called, though this prevents me from reading waht is on the drop down menu.. I'd suggest removing the label tags from those tabs as others will probably experience the same problem.

For usability I'd reccommend dropping in a 'home' tab on the left hand side of that group of links: having to use the logo as the link seems a little bit inconsistent. Also the lettering on the tabs themselves might need to stand out more.

Other than that - speaking as someone who has very little design experience - very nice.
