In the best traditions of national footballing pride, I hereby launch my "Swedish for a Day" campaign.

The date:
12th June 2002

The place:
Nationwide throughout the UK.

The purpose:
To turn every self-respecting football fan in the UK into an honorary Swedish national for one day.

The reason:
To show Sven how much we appreciate yesterday's result by getting the whole nation behind his home nation of Sweden as they take on Argentina in the World Cup.

Wear a shirt, buy a flag, paint your face - whatever you want. But above all, cheer for Sweden until your lungs hurt, and send the Argies packing, hairbands, centre-partings, dodgy perms an' all!

Remember: "The enemy of my enemy is my friend."

Come on Sweden!

NO offence everyone, but I dont want to be swedish anymore today.

Why, because they are taking all of the glory for putting the argies out of the world cup.

I think you'll find the reason that argentina went out of the world cup is the english. just look on yahoo to see what I mean.

I didn't mind being swedish for the game, butthis takes the scandinavian biscuit.

Well done to Sweden, and thank you!

And of course, a very big "well done" to Our Boys to. Dire match, but I half expected it with the heat.

Winning the group would have been nice, but would have meant another early kick-off against Senegal in the heat. As it is, we have Denmark in the evening, when it will be cooler.

At least we got out of the "Group of Death", which I really didn't think we would do.

Argentina won their qualifying group by a distance, but they only layed against South American teams (obviously). Our result against them shows that that style isn't as effective against European teams that, basically, understand the concept of defending.

Sweden will give Argentina a really tough game, especially considering they only need a draw.

And Brazil? China had chances to score. They only beat Turkey due to being given a penalty when the offense took place outside the box. Because they won't have played a quality team in the group stages, they may well stuggle if they play a more solid team in the second round. They should beat Japan if they face them, but if they have to face the Russians they may find it tough.

And if they did meet England in the quarter finals, it'd be one hell of a game, and the quarter finals if further than many of us would have hoped for in the first place!

So, as I've strayed from the point a little, come on Sweden!

No you don't.

Where'd you hear that from???

If England finish top of their group they'll play the team that comes 2nd out of Denmark, France, Senegal and Uruguay.

If they come 2nd then they'll play the winner of that group.
