Can you imagine what life would be like today if Sega had never existed??

The Gaming World as we know it just simply wouldn't be!
If you look at what Sega have done and given us over the years then you'll soon see how crucial their influence has been all games we have played and enjoyed for the last decade or so.

When you think of Sega, you immediatly think of one thing: Sonic the Hedgehog. And along with the name of the spikey blue one come the likes of Tails Miles Prower, Knuckles the Echidna, and Dr. Robotnik (aka. Eggman). Many other names also come to mind, but it's the speedy blue hedgehog himself that's helped the name 'Sega' grow and grow, up untill it's reputation of today.

If you've played just one Sonic game then it has to have been a Sonic one!
Wether it was one of his earlier appearences on the Master System, Mega Drive, or even the GameGear, you'll have experienced first-hand what true innovation is all about.
With character after character to soon join Sonic on his new and exciting adventures, the series has been growing strong for a long while now - almost as long as long-term rivals Nintendo's mascot Mario has been in the Games Industry himself.
Sonic has been the one character who has come closest to steeling Mario's head-butting thunder, but Sonic isn't quite ALL of what Sega are all about.

Aswell as a whole room-full of Sonic games, Sega have given us (the gamers) titles a-plenty for us to drool over on a Sega console. Back in the early days Streets of Rage was one of the greatest games around - and many today feel that nothing has come close to this game ever since!
Toe Jam and Earl is another short-series of top-titles from Sega's early days that still live strong in the memories of gamers today.
In the more recent years we've seen sims like Virtua Fighter and Virtua Soccer, aswell as the highly succesfull Crazy Taxi and Shenmue games, and also Super Monkey Ball on the GameCube.
What more could ANYONE have to offer us!! We couldn't have asked for any more!
Not even the long-lasting familly-favourites Nintendo have come up with so many original titles on such a frequent and regular basis!

That's enough on the games front, as yet again, there is still a lot more that Sega have introduced to the Gaming World from an early age. The SNES vs. Mega Drive battle is known today as the 'Golden Age' of Gaming - a time for gamers that really showed us what the Gaming World was all about!
Again, Sega played a huge part in making this such a succesfull time, mainly thanks to the new and original ideas that Yuji Naka introduced first - and not in his games!
The Mega Drive's CD-on the 'Mega CD' made Sega the first company to have produced a console that makes use of Compact Discs for playing games. This was something Nintendo tried to do, but failed.
We all love the fact that Analogue Sticks have replaced D-pads, making controlling your characters a lot easier. Well, you can thank Naka and Sega for that - the idea probably had something to do with Sega's big reputation in the Arcade Market, and they wanted to have a similar effect in the Console Market.
That was with the 'dropped-dead' Saturn, and yet again, Sega had another first with their final console addition in the Dreamcast. Not only was it the first 128-bit console on the market, but it was the first to go fully on-line - with the Phantasy Star games becoming massive! But for one reason or another, the £200 next-gen. console failed under the power of the Sony PlayStation.
And if you look at that winning console, you may also notice that they've nicked on or two of Sega's firsts! And incase I haven't already said enough to keep you amused, Sega have proven to be the first company to really pose as a threat to Nintendo's GameBoys with the GameGear.

So, where are Sega today???
Unfortunately, Naka and co. have put and end to all console developments - so we won't be seeing a future console from Nintendo's biggest all-time rivals ever again.
As said as it sounds, this isn't neccesarily the end of the world for Sega and their fans.
They've decided to keep-on doing what thye've done best over the years, and keep-on bringing out the games that'll keep us gamers happy, and so we won't have a big gaping whole left by the big S.
On the likes of the X-box, PS2, and GameCube you'll soon be able to expect the likes of Shenmue, Crazy Taxi, Sonic, Virtua Fighter, Virtua Tennis, and even Toe Jam and Earl!
All these games and more - and not just updates of the classics - all new adventures will be available!

Although many are said to see them go, they're still there - and not just in our hearts.
Yuji Naka is also adding the final touches to his own GameCube Keyboard for playing Dreamcast ports like the Phantasy Star games on-line. Looks like Nintendo and Sega have 'burried the hatchet' then!
Can you blame Mr. Miyamoto?? If a company like Sega are offering their services to anyone, then they're assistance is something you cannot succeed without!

Just think about the situation the Gaming World would be in if Sega had never been started by Yuji Naka all those years ago. They're not just about great games, it's the innovation and originallity that comes with their name!

Things just wouldn't be the same without them, and it'll all be 'GameOver' if they ever do decide to call it a day - FULL STOP! There's no-one around today that could ever replace them - not even Nintendo!

Remember: "It takes Ages to be Sega" - and we could never wait that long!

A handheld from SEGA would be great, playing all the 16bit classics will be great..... but it wont happen, cos GBA is getting a lot of old MEga Drive games.... also GBA is the best selling console of all time!!!!!!! IN total about 120 million Gameboys exist!!!!!!!!! So SEGAs chance at a handheld would fail even more than the Genesis did, in other words, it would fail...BIG TIME!

However, I fell that they should release a new main console! A hell of a lot of people have a DC now! Especially after getting them cheap, so the failure of DC did do a good thing, and that was to largly increase SEGA's fanbase!!! IF they released a new console, im sure it would do great! Dreamcast did not do that bad anyway! ITs just, that in the console market, its not good to jsut be doing 'okay', you have to do well to make profit! Thats the reason why only one company is doing very well, and that is Sony!

Im sure SEGA will release another console, they have made loads the the temptation will be too great for them again, and I can imagine them saying.. 'just one last shot at making a console!'. I reckon after they have made up all their losses (which they have probably done now) they might contemplate a sequel to DC, as we all know, a sequel was in development, but was blatently stopped after the DC's failure. Lets hope they do continue with the project, I just hope that if they do it does not make them unpopular, after all many people might have just bought a PS2 or XBox because of SEGA releases on it!

What do u all think?

Yeah, the simillarities between Nintendo and Sega kept the competition fierce, which also kept the console wars alive with a lot of excitement, innovation, and great games!

The 'Golden Age' wouldn't have been as exciting without them.
Nothing will ever quite be as good as the SNES vs. Mega Drive days!

I know what you mean there, but i'm sure we'll get used to it.

Who knows, maybe Yuji Naka will release his very own next-generation Sega controller for use on all 3 of the next-gen. consoles???
That'd help Sega fans to enjoy Sega games on alien formats further.
I just don't think that a game like Sonic would feel the same with an X-box pad - even if the button-layouts are relatively similar.

If they are gunna make another console then it has to be a handheld.
The GameGear wasn't all that bad, i've still got mine and I was playing it again last year!
The GBA needs something to test it's potential, and keep Nintendo working hard on it - it needs competition.

Otherwise it'll just be as boring as it is know, without any clearly visible competition for it during it's lifespan.

For me, SEGA games are colourful, fresh and fast: just think of Sonic, Crazy Taxi, Virtua Tennis, Jet Set Radio, Shenmue, Rez, etc, etc.
Like Nintendo, yet in a different way, SEGA games nearly always have that magical spark.

I do agree Solskjær... especially when you said that SEGA producing games for other consoles is great, much better than the company splitting up..... however, I think dep down we all prefer to haev SEGA's games on its home console, the Dreamcast.... I would love it sooo much if we could play Beach Spikers, Super Money Ball, Virtua Tennis 3, Virtua Fighter 4, SEGA GT 2002, Gun Valkrie, Sonic Adventure 3, House Of The Dead 3 and Shenmue 3 on Dreamcast! All classic SEGA games that would have come out on DC if it had not failed!

I hope SEGA do make another console.... I would sacrifice my XBox for DC2 anyday!!!

I also reckon Nintendo wouldn't be the same without them.
Think about it, due to the simillarties in their work, Sega were the first and only real company to have really threaten Miyamoto and co. in several different areas.

If Nintendo hadn't been under so much pressure to keep up the good work back then, then they may not be the top games and console designers that we know them as today!

It's sad to see Sega go, but they'll still keep their reputation with their Triforce and multi-format work.

It's not really too late for Sega with Shenmue, this series is onl just begining! It seems that no.2, an all-new no.3, and maybe even more will be appearing on the X-box.
It's already pretty succesfull too, so there's no real reason as to why this series can't grow during the next 10 years+ into something as big and spectuacular and The Legend of Zelda or even Final Fantasy!

Yeah I agree. Without SEGA there would'nt be as many class consoles around today.
They started the whole thing off really in my opinion. I still have my Master System and my Mega Drive and still use them.
What I think made the Saturn be less succesfull than the Playstation was the types of games available.
The Saturn had many games which involved time limits which some people like but I think more people prefer to have more freedom while playing games (Final Fantasy for example) without worrying about time. Which the Playstation offered.
Although SEGA sorted this out with Shenmue it was just too late.
But yeah SEGA were good during their time and started a whole new market
for consoles, which we should be grateful for.
