"MSN : Help and Addresses"

This may sound stupid, but I'm relatively new to the information super highway and I just need some answers. I often hear people talking about MSN, and have a few questions...

1) What is it? (another chat forum, right?)

2) How do I get it?

Help would be much appreciated. If you would ever like to speak to me, or me to speak to you, then adresses would be nice.

Although I have blocked around 20 of my rather large list (I only talk to around 15 of them), a lot of other people think I've blocked them, but that's because usually whenever I log in I "Appear Offline" straight away. :D
