During one of my more philosophical moments, I was wondering if there was ever a time that Shiva, the Guardian Force from the Final Fantasy series, ever accidently showed a nipple whilst being summoned. (Who said philosophy was boring?)

This got me thinking further about my gameplay habits. It seems to be true that when playing Final Fantasy games that I tend to summon Shiva more often than any of the other GFs, not because she's got great stats, more because she's got great, well, probably because she's not wearing much everytime she appears.

Then there was Cloud Strife's bit of stuff from Final Fantasy VII, the sprite-heavy Tifa Lockheart. Why was she usually one of the three characters going into battle out of the possible eight? Yep, those wobbly polygonal thingys again.

Then, of course, there's my collection of Tomb Raider games. Think Tomb Raider, think bra-busting heroine Lara Croft (even though I don't think she actually wore a bra, I've spent hours peering at the screen whilst the game is paused checking for strap marks showing through her t-shirt to no avail).

Did I buy Ridge Racer 5 for the thrill of the hi-speed hi-octane adrenaline pumping racing action or was it just for the 60 second CGI sequence at the start with the girl striding along the road trying to hitch a lift? (The lap dancers in the onscreen menus were a bonus, I wasn't expecting that).

I try to tell myself I buy these games for the gameplay, not the graphics. But my inner-self may be guiding my actions without me realising it. Am I going to get Virtua Fighter 4 for the fantastic training mode and kumite options or just so that I can dress up one of the female fighters in the skimpiest outfit I can unlock and then try to beat her to a pulp by hitting her with all the right moves in all the wrong places?

I dunno. And quite frankly I don't care anymore as long as I'm having fun. My subconscious seems to be picking all the right games for me without me knowing, it's just that tonight I was questioning my subconsciousness's motives. My subconscious is currently trying to get its own back by creating writers' block for me, but I got around that by typing this sentence and thinking about what I was going to write in the next one.
