About A Boy, Peter Pan 2, Spider-man, Harry Potter 2, LOTR 2 (although that might be next year), The Scorpion King, Spy Kids 2, Men In Black 2, Stuart Little 2, Ali G Indahouse, Resident Evil, Vanilla Sky, Die Another Day (next bond film) and others.
See what I'm getting at? One last hint.
The 2 most successful films of last year were definitely Bridget Jones' Diary and Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone.
The point is, every film mentioned above is one of the following: A sequel, a prequel, a sequel-prequel, a spin-off, or a film based on a book, videogame or t.v show. And if you think about, some of the most famous films of all time have sequels coming in the next few years that we can't wait for: Terminator and The Matrix.
The question isn't "What happened to my lunch?" (shock horor) but it's "What happened to originality?" The answer: "We shall never know." But it would still be nice if we had a higher love for normal, not-based on anything films.
But if you think about it, it was only 2 years ago when we would call the most succesful films of this year original, as they were Gladiator, Meet the Parents, Chicken Run and the Perfect Storm among others.
Wouldn't it be nice if we could go back to a stage like this?
And if you think about it, most of the time you come out of a sequel or spin-off movie, you find yourself saying it wasn't as good as the original.
If cinema goes on like this, then we may never see another Gladiator, Matrix or other original idea again, and we may have to live with nothing but Academy fell-for-it old guy saves-the-days and several Spy Kids 7 movies.....
There is another thing that could happen: people will simply lose interest in film.
And that would suck.
So be greatful for original film.

You didn't like Memento? It's one of the best films I've seen in years! It was massively original. I just hope no-one bothers to try and copy it, or make a "sequel"
Still a good post, I wasnt having a pop
The loving, almost lustful gaze from Clooney and Marky Mark floated up at the end.
He wanted his funky bunch, I'm telling you
Panic room was excellent though.

Er...Gladiator was Spartacus, The Matrix is Kung-Fu Cyberpunk and Chicken Run is more claymation. Not what I'd call original.
Original films to me are ones like Rushmore, Memento (I didn't like it but can appreciate it), Amelie.
Nice post though.
And The Perfect Storm blew chunks.
