My MD is totally fubarred. It has no case and I can control it with a jump lead. But enough of that.
So, I'm after a replacement.
CDs are too big, so they're out of the question. I dislike MP3 players due to the price:storage ratio. They also hold compatability concerns for me and my penguin friends. I don't want to reboot just to write some MP3s. Minidisc players are a very good option, but recording and naming is a pain. Doubtless they have ones which transfer via USB direct from MP3s, but they're expensive (probably) and there's always the compatability. I'd mostly be writing from MP3, because I have MDs of all my CDs already.
So, I've been looking at them there Napa player I hear talk about from them folks yonder. Is it any good? 185mb discs sound good. At 197 minutes per disc (at 128kpbs), times 10 discs supplied, I doubt storage is a problem. It has a remote, Anti-shock, is small and has a certain "cool" factor. Doesn't look too good though. I'm not in to plastic.
The thing is, I'm a bit of an audiophile. I don't like MP3s much anyway, but they're bearable. Does anyone know what the output quality and volume of this is? The thing is, it's very reasonable. Perhaps too reasonable. There simply MUST be a catch, and I reckon quality is it.
Oh, there's also something called "MPZIP", which is the same but classier. It looks better than the Napa though. Anyone know much about it? I don't think it's Britanified yet.
Can anyone give me a hand with this then? Come on SR, tell it to me straight. Is it any good?
And yes, I have £2000's worth of audio hardware in my room.
MP3s will never die out, you'll always be able to download them, whereas Sony stopped making MD players a while back (song being the founder of MD) so it won't be long before the disks are rare in shops.
MP3 players with Flash memory rule! it makes your MP3 player completly functional, if you run out of space on one you swap it for another, I don't think they cost too much but as you can record over and over on them it's well worth it.
That would be my choice, I havn't heard of the MPZIP thing, I don't really trust new technology anymore it always seems to flop aftera while.
