Incase you haven't heard, Roy Keane has today announced that he will retire fully from International Football with the Republic of Irelnad after Eire's participation in the World Cup this summer over in Japan and South Korea. This news comes as a shock to both fans of his club Manchester United and everyone who's got that bit of Irish in them, expecting bigger things to come for their country in the near future with Keane in control.

This isn't the first shocking piece of news to have emerged from the Irish training camp over in Asia, thousands of miles away either. Only yesterday, one day before this, did we hear that Keano, one of the biggest parts of Mick McCarthy's plans, had some kind of serious bust-up with the Head Coach and was on his way back to the UK, as the fiery-Irishman weny AWOL!

But good news soon followed-on shortly after.
Words were said and hatchets were burried as Keano was soon on his way back to where he was needed.

But as soon as I type this I have read something new that instantly grabs everyone's attention!
It seems that he may be on his way back after all, due to the difficulties and frustration he has experienced during Ireland's trip over there.
But surely that's not reason to just quit the Word Cup!

How dis-respectfull, look at the loyalties he's breaking to his home nation! What away to blow your last crack at playing in the World Cup!!
Surely it can't ALL be down to something that's happened over there!
There must be a reasonable explanation...

Maybe he's just not the 'big player' that we all thought he was. Ireland haven't been in the World Cup for donkey's years! Maybe he's finding this all too new and different, and just can't take the pressure of the whole world watching him perform with a team that he believe do not come close to his own, personal abillity!
But this is a squad of highly-confident youngsters and older, with players like McAteer and Robbie Keane who have helped their side to do the un-thinkable and reach the World Cup Finals, while over-coming the likes of Holland and Portugal along the way - and that's something that even England haven't been able to do for the last 3 years!!

He's also a big player who takes a strong grip and control of any team in the biggest of games. He's done it in Europe on numorous accasions and the United fans and players have come to truly worship and admire a player who leads like a truly vicious role model on the pitch.
Why would he suddenly be so 'scared' and decide to 'run away' when he's been playing the likes of Bayern Munich and Juventus in fierce conditions on a regular basis??

There mus be another explanation that doesn't envlove his 'on the pitch' antics.
We all know already how he isn't exactly 'Mr. Nice Guy' off the pitch as we've seen in the past. He's critisised his own loyal, 'prawn-eating' supporters at Old Trafford when he's really the one who should be recieving the complaints. Maybe something's happened between him and another player over in Japan and that's why they've sent him home?

According to the latest reports, it's all down to his own personal critisism of the way Ireland have gone about the World Cup.
So maybe with his growing Ego he feels that they should be doing things 'his way' and no different.
If this is the case then he deserves to loose the Captain's Armband, but maybe not go home.

Whatever the reason is for Keane's sudden departure back home - wether he's been sent back or has gone AWOL - one thing that's for sure is that it's down to something that's happened off the pitch, as we know exactly what he's like on it, and that's scary enough!
One thing they shoudln't let him do is go home! We all know how he plays, and it must be horrible for Irish fans to try and imagine the size of the hole he'll leave behind in their side. He will be missed!

Are all hopes of the Irish getting past the Groups Stages going away with Roy Keane, travelling thousands of miles??? I'd say yes.

The best thing for him now is to stick with his career at club level, but fate could be awaiting him when he meets up with Alex Ferguson next after these shocking pre-World Cup antics!

You could say that the best thing for him now is to drown his sorroes down the pub. Wait a minute, he's Irish - what good would that do!! :S

Apparently, Keane has now accepted that he is wrong and that no player can speak to a manager in anyway like that ever.
He also said that he was pretty annoyed with some of the players, including Niall Quinn, Alan Kelly, and one or two others.

And many TV and News people are offering to pay Keane to tell his side of the whole story and what he feels.

If he does this, Fergie won't be too happy - and that could mean very bad things for the rest of his time at Old Trafford!

If he was to leave, he'd either go to his no.1 club Celtic, or one of the top European teams - but not ones with a packed squad like Bayern or Real.

I can't believe what im reading?

sell Roy Keane? - dont be silly.

without that guy man utd would have difficulties the man leads by example, getting anywhere in a season, specially in europe. He is our best player and would be 'un-replacable'

He has been everywhere this season, in defence, midfield and attack.

So what if he has voiced his opinions about something which he believes in?
I would do the same in his situation.

Everyone has opinions and have clashes with people who dont feel the same. I know I have at uni and at work with manager's etc.

He is a winner and belives only the best facilites should help Irelands campaign for the world cup. The pitch and training conditions has been causing injuries in the irland team and Keane has ben concerned...its more of a concern that the FAI and Mick Macarthy don't seem to be bothered about the conditions?

Fergie will never sell keane, he is the heart-beat of our Keane.

We won't sell Keane. He is the most influential player we have got. Except Beckham who leads by example. Maybe Blanc or Gary Neville could become good captains

Well said Lord Humungous!

First Gazza goes and destroys his career with light boozing and early morining kebabs, and now Keane goes psychoe on his own national manager after already insulting his clubs fans!

I agree with what you said there, and that this COULD be his last season at Old Trafford. Problem is that Fergie isn't gunna suddenly sell him after the dissapointment we had last season, when Keane played so strong and persistantly.

He's a highly-valued asset of the team, but he could blow it all with very poor temperment.

The only thing I have to say about this whole thing is that Roy Keane is obviously living in a world of his own hype. He is quick to sl@g off his Man U team mates about lack of discipline(sp). Then he goes and has a stupid four letter tyrade with his international manager.

The man's an idiot. He's now finished playing for his country. I give him one more season with United and then he is gone. No one wants a thug like him in a team. Fergie has played him for a fool and Keane, being of very limited intelligence, has accepted that.

I feel for his four children who have to live with the fact that their father was a great footballer who completely disgraced himself on the world's biggest stage.

What a loser.....

Yep, and don't forget the Wembley project!

Wow! They could be knackered for weeks with that much jet-lag! :o
Maybe all that time being stuck on a plane didn't help to keep him calm?

Told you - he's got an ego problem!
Too much money if you ask me! It'll be Beckham next. :(

Denis Irwin - a loyal servant who will be dearly missed.
I reckon he should take up some kinda coaching role - he'd be great for helping the youngsters develop! That is of course if they can understand him through his Irish accent! ;)

Nice few words of support from Denis Irwin....

"This has been developing for quite a while. The FAI are amateurish in the way they do things, the way we have travelled, the hotels we have stayed in and the training facilities laid on for us.

"Roy is serious about football, he wants his team-mates to think the same way as him and he wants training to be perfect because they are playing in a World Cup."

All it means for United is that one of their most influential players will not run the risk of picking up an injury in the world cup, and will instead get a good summer's rest. Not something to get that bothered about really!

But after extremely un-proffesional behaviour in the World Cup how can you trust 100% that he won't do the same sort of thing in a European or Domestic competition - which isn't as big as at the World Stage!

Surely he was only gunna leave in the first place because of the size of his head - due to all the money and attention he recieves, he probably felt he was the biggest thing at Ireland's training camp!
