So another Notable election, another series of cries of “cheat” and “I don’t think X should have been made a Notable”.
Grix made a point about why he voted monkey_man “Because to me he makes these forums enjoyable”.
That is the *only* reason you should vote for someone. Not so a Sony/Nintendo/movies forum can have a representation and not because someone is a mate.
Newbies logging on to vote when they’ve only made 3 or 4 posts, monkey_man getting hassled enough that he decides he doesn’t want to be one, SonicRav “resigning”, people screaming and crying.
Well, speaking as someone that is still surprised he got voted, I can honestly say I’m fed up with it all.

Notables are voted as such (in an ideal world) because they write stuff that makes you want to read it. Whether it’s PB with his always winning posts about computer stuff, me writing my usual toss about Star Wars and Lylat Wars.
It doesn’t matter if they are “worthy” enough, it’s whether you make a point of reading their topics.
Now personally I haven’t really come across SonicRav that much and I certainly have no idea who Pro-Evo is, never go in the Sony forum so I can’t say anything – but that’s also the reason I didn’t vote for them.
Nothing against them at all, but I didn’t vote for them because I never read their stuff.

The idea of Notables was people that “made these forums special”. How the hell I do that is beyond me, this isn’t false modesty here, I am genuinely clueless as to why anyone voted for me. I’m grateful, don’t think otherwise, I just woke up the next day and thought “Eh? Buh? Meh?”, shrugged and continued to post away as usual.
But I have seen several comments regarding YH’s continual posting of the scores along the lines of “Good to see a Notable earning their status” and “The only Notable to be worth their salt” etc etc.
Excuse me?
You think it’s fun to constantly get comments like that from people, simply because other people voted for us?
You think I personally enjoy the idea that some of you think I owe you anything at all?
Because you’re mistaken mate, I didn’t vote for me.
Grix didn’t vote for him.
None of us did.

Because we have been voted, their seems to be some idea in some quarters that we should act like we’re anything special, like we have a responsibility towards the forums in some manner.
Well we don’t.
We have no special privileges (despite what Snuggly may tell you) at all, yet we get to listen to the crap that some people come out with.
Having a Notable Status, from experience, means that you are open target for any snipey little comments that people feel free to make. If you get more responses to a topic that you write than someone else, “Oh it’s because you’re a Notable”.
If we had any say whatsoever in these forums, then maybe it would make it reasonable to have to deal with that crap that some of you hand out.
We aren’t moderators, we don’t get anymore than you do other than a gold name and the knowledge that some people like your posts enough to vote for you.
That is what being a Notable is – people read your stuff and enjoy it. Nothing more. Not because we represent forums for particular allegiances etc, not because we’re better than anyone else, not because you get treated any better at all.

Whether you think Pro-Evo should have been voted in is your business and your business only. You voted for who you wanted, and that’s as far as your interest should go.
You don’t go start moaning to the man on the street if he voted Labour and you didn’t – It’s a personal choice based on your own opinions.
Whether you think monkey_man spams or not doesn’t matter. A lot of people voted for him, including a lot of the staff and Notables.
A lot of people voted for Pro-Evo and I don’t think I’ve ever read one of this topics.
Does this mean he shouldn’t be Notable? Not at all. Same with Sonic Rav.
The *only* thing that means someone shouldn’t be Notable is if the votes were rigged.
Whether you agree with the outcome or not is irrelevant.
I’m miffed monkey_man didn’t get it, that doesn’t mean I begrudge the other two.

I was annoyed when PB and Rasta got made Notable. But that wasn’t against them personally, it was because they simply didn’t get the same number of votes as the runners-up did, they got plucked by Tony because he thought they should be.
But then I realised it didn’t matter at all, because at the end of the day I post whether I have a gold name or not.
Same should go for anyone else, just as with GAD. You post because you enjoy it, not because you expect anything in return.
If you voted for a mate, simply because he was a mate then you are a tool and your mate shouldn’t be a Notable.
Another Notable Election, and another round of finger-pointing and crybabying about the results.
Gah.
