Well for starters, the X-Box can go take a jump. The skyscraper size (big enough to fit 2 babies inside along with my brother's 14-year old, 4ft irritating nonce of a friend), incredibly chunky and unusable controller plus my hatred for Microsoft (due to them being the most money-hungry company that Satan and myself ever placed on this Earth) mean that if Microsoft want MY money, they can pry it from my cold, lifeless fingers.
So it's either Sony or Nintendo who are going to get their dirty little hands on my crisp, hard-earned cash. It's either the PlayStation 2 or the Gamecube, people.
And in coming to this conclusion, I've been weighing out the pros and cons of each console in an attempt to decide which console to buy. So here's my "report" on just the pros for each console, for all to view....
PlayStation 2:
- The PS2 plays DVD's, which is its' main advantage over the Gamecube.
- It's backwards compatible with all of the old PSOne games and the majority of the peripherals.
- With 2 multi-taps, I could have up to 8 players.
- The PS2 can be stored vertically, which will save on the space it takes up next to my other....stuff.
- There's the PS2 range of Platinum games, each costing only 20 quid.
Gamecube:
- Up to 4 players without the need to shell out on any multi-taps.
- The Gamecube is far smaller than the PS2, making it far more portable if I were to take it anywhere (something that I frequently do with my consoles).
- The Gamecube has the ability to link up to the Game Boy Advance via a special cable, adding more to the videogames experience (admittedly there's only the Sonic Advance / Sonic Adventure 2: Battle link-up at the moment, though).
- Compared to the PS2, the Gamecube comes at a real bargain price (round about 130 quid).
- Loading times are something that any developers working on Gamecube games have actually lengthened themselves in order to actually makes the games feel more like games.
- The Gamecube controllers are easier to get to grips with than those of the PS2.
Now that the cons of each console have been sorted out, it's now time to move onto the games. Below is a list of the games that really interest me or have caught my eye on each console...
PlayStation 2:
- Ecco the Dolphin
- Grand Theft Auto 3
- Jak & Daxter
- Red Faction
- Star Wars Voyager: Elite Force
- Time Crisis 2
- Virtua Fighter 4
Gamecube:
- Sonic Adventure 2: Battle
- Star Wars: Rogue Leader
- Super Monkey Ball
- Super Smash Bros Melee
- Wave Race: Blue Storm
And there's also these games, which appear (or are set to appear) on both consoles...
- Burnout
- Extreme G 3
- Spider-Man: The Movie
- Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3
- Turok Evolution
So that's it, then. I've looked at the good points of each console and had a look at which games I'd buy if I were to buy one of the consoles... and each console brings about its' own merits which are more than good enough to warrant me buying the consoles. So I'm totally stumped.
Which is why I'd like the opinions of "you lot". Which console do "you lot" think I should buy into? I'd be really appreciative of any opinions "you lot" could give me. Thanks, "you lot".

And Animal Crossing.
do any of you know how good Smash Bros. is in multiplayer? if its an improvement on the original, it'll be the best multiplayer title game ever, and the one player's now great too. 95% in NGC, which only gives the like of ISS2 83% and Super Monkey Ball 88%.
My opinion IS biased, mind you. However, its also correct.
Then theres all yer other reasons like price n all that.
Here are some more pros and cons for each console:
GameCube:
+ Brilliant controller
+ A wide variety of games (unlike the N64 I must add)
+ Nintendo hardware is generally good quality and long lasting (from my experience - and you should know after dropping your Game Boy Color down the stairs)
+ It wont block the toilet if you do get bored of it and decide to flush it.
- Doesn't play DVD's (is that really bad for a games machine?)
- It's got a 'kiddie' image
- Usually a long wait from Nintendo and Rare for games.
Playstation 2:
+ It has a large variety of games already out.
+ It has loads of third party support
+ It's been reduced many a time now.
- Poor controllers
- Only a few decent exclusives (you mentioned above)
- Games cheaper on other formats (though same can be said about X-box and especially GBA)
I Personally would get the GameCube (well I am getting one) and that's after playing my brother's PS2 for a while (including today). The Playstation 2 is an ok console, but I'd be breaking copyright laws about the Honda advert and the Burger King advert if I carried on with that sentance. Just, why settle with OK when you can have BK....I mean a console that's better quality (in my opinion) and much more fun to play (depending on the games, etc)?
But that's all you're getting for now, because I haven't got a Gamecube yet :D boo-hoo me.
Nice post though Mark, helps me decide which I want 'n' all
