Sony UK has dropped the price of the PSone under £50, while Sony US has finally dropped the PS2 price from $299 to $199.

No UK price drop for PS2 ... yet!

*If* the price of PS2 is to drop, I reckon it will go to around £170 - i.e. £169.99.

I don`t think there will be a Gamecube price drop for a looonnng time. At £129, they`re selling them at the absolute lowest they can manage. Any lower and no amount of game sales would be enough to make up the loss. Perhaps in a year or more at least...

As for X-Box, its the same story. They *might* take it down for the Xmas rush, but I doubt it. It`ll probably come in 2003 when sales dwindle towards the summer.

Sony with the PS2 is the only one left with a choice now, and I`m sure that if they find sales are still strong enough, they`ll keep the price as it is. However, I`m sure the GC made some sort of dent, or possibly just a scratch, and Sony might decide to drop the price.

The problem with a price drop is where to drop it to. If they drop it by not enough, they might have to drop again, and that could look bad. However, even a small drop is enough to take it below the price of the X-Box. If they drop to £150 its plenty below X-Box, but its still more than the GC, meaning that stood in a shop, people will still see a price difference. Its quite possible that the difference itself isn`t that important, only that there is one.

As a result, my prediction is that Sony will wait a little while to see sales figures, and then if they have to, they`ll drop the price by a serious margin.

*Waits five minutes and hears "Hello, this is an official announcement from Sony - "The price of PS2 will now be dropped to £198.99 making it a clear £1 cheaper than the X-Box"*

I suppose it was inevitable that the USA would drop the PS2 price as it's very unusual for us to be paying less than them.

It would be interesting to see some sales figures from Sony after the introduction of the GC - I suppose that's what Sony will wait for over here to see if they need to drop the price. I always thought that the GC would be more of a competitor anyway because it is very different from the PS2 wheras Microsoft have modelled their machine to aim at the same market.

Is there any news on when we will see the drop???.

Therefore how long until GC drops to £99.99??? I imagine it will be soon after.
