Trouble is, I'm out of SCART sockets, out of plug sockets, and - despite the small size - am struggling for somewhere to put it!

I'd suggest (goes into helpful mode), playing either your PS2 or XBox to death, then unplugging one of them, allowing the Gamecube to take its place.
The reason Ethiopia don't have this problem is that they airdropped the Gamecubes with no problems, but the population ate the Scart leads.
