Actress and model Rachel Willis, who plays AOL's Internet cyberbabe Connie, was punched in the face by a mobile phone mugger who struck in broad daylight.

The 26-year-old star managed to hold on to her handbag as her attacker ran off into a nearby housing estate with her phone.

She was on her way home when the assault happened in Kennington, south London at 6.30pm on Tuesday.

'Traumatised'

Ms Willis said she was "traumatised" by the attack.

"It was an opportunist attack. I was stupidly walking with my phone talking to my mum and he came and snatched it out of my hand.

"It happened so quickly, your instant reaction is to hang on, which I did - but then he got violent.

"I was really, really shaken up but it could have been a lot worse.

"I really feel quite traumatised. I'm a young girl but older women and men being attacked is horrifying. It's horrifying that you can't walk down the street."

Nationally recognised

The 5ft 11in actress became nationally recognised when she landed the role of Connie, the face of Internet service provider AOL which has one million customers.

As part of a multi-million pound campaign she appears in more than a dozen television adverts, wearing a digitally enhanced, shimmering dress and cropped red hair and guiding families around AOL.

A Scotland Yard spokesman said: "There have been no arrests and we have been informed of a suspect who is described as a black male."
