Hey there, some of you may know me from the PS2 forum, but for those who don`t, I`m a loyal PS2 fan, and own a PSone and PS2. I also owned an N64, but it never really grabbed me like the PS.

Anyway, thats not the point, instead, I`m looking for a reason to buy, or not to buy a Gamecube. With the transfer of Resident Evil, and the fact that less then 99% of games will be for kids this time round, plus the fact that SR are selling it at under £130 I had begun to wonder if two could really be company.

The arrival of the X-Box did nothing to tempt me, and the price drop actually put me off even more. However, I am a major Star Wars fan, so with things like Rogue Squadron on GC, the Gamecube is looking strong.

I must point out that the GC would never replace the PS2 as my number 1 console in this generation, but if the price is right, I may look into it once I`ve got plenty of work, and therefore pay, over the summer.

Further points to mention - Mario is not an incentive to buy, and neither is Zelda. Rare are, but I have already considered this, and believe this to be relatively unimportant due to Free Radical and the possibility of Rare going multi-format.

Anyway, if any of you guys have any really good reasons to buy, or not to buy the GC, then please let me know.

Here's the deal.

The GameCube, as you know, is fairly easy to program for. So games are flying out from everywhere (Soccer Slam Planning and Dev Time = 5 months, same for Home Run King and MOnkey Ball) This year, Japan will get load of wicked games, all before Christmas... Mario, StarFox, Zelda, Metroid, Mario Golf, Tenis, and Maybe Mario Kart. Chances are, there'll be quite a few decent third party games as well, like Turok Evo and Virtua Fighter Quest.

To be honest, us Europeans won't see a glimpse of any of these games until around Christmas, but more likely in the New year.

I'd wait. You've got a PS2, and from a professional point of view, you've got FFX, VF4, Tekken 4, Stuntman, maybe Getaway and TOCA World Car Thingy 2002 to last you a good while yet. Auto Modellista is another one. Xenosaga another. The list goes on!!

Wait until Christmas, and then buy... you'll have more than enough games for your PS2 between now and then.

If you want one now, get one... Melee and PIKMIN will be here soon, and Rogue Leader rules. Resident Evil will be here by the end of the summer, as will ED, The Wavebird Pad and maybe even Turok.

Getting one now is a good idea, especially because of the price, and the decent launch games... But I can't honestly see you having time for a Cube when you've got such a chocablock PS2 release schedule ahead.

It's your call. But If I were you, i'd see how things go first. It's not as if they're gonna shoot up in price and Nintendo are gonna stop production after 3 months of release.

Oh the PC, the PC. A great thing, yet so utterly drab it is unbelievable. Fantastic games, I play them, but consoles appealt to me for their instant playablility, a huge range of games (perhaps more so than the PC) and some fantastic games.

O - An inadvertant GC advert as well! Wait if you want, I probably should, but I can't!!!!!

Try Jak and Daxter on your PS2.

If you STILL don't like platformers/adventure games then forget Mario and Zelda but there's still plenty of other games around.
If you're interested, the topic "EVERYONE should get a Gamecube." goes into why a Gamecube would compliment your PS2.

It's certainly the ultimate machine for 4 player games.

Not to mention the fact that its always nice to have a Star Wars game that won't crash and send you all the way back to a windows screen after playing for ages. ;-)

Thanks for all your help guys, (even Small Frog sort of :D ). I think I`ll take Meka`s advice and hang on a bit. I would have waited for summer anyway so that my exams were out the way, so I`ll see what arrives and what doesn`t. Also, thanks devo for the offer, I`ll certainly keep a look out for your opinion of the GC when you post it.

At the moment, if something as good as Rogue Leader, or the game itself, comes to PS2, that`ll mean I definitely wouldn`t be going for one... but if the Star Wars games keep rolling in, and if Mario Kart has the magic of the original, then it could be hard to resist the tempation over the summer. The PS2 won`t have many games release between June and September, so that could also be a factor... but as I said, I`ll wait and see.

Ah but most of the PC Star Wars titles are at least last gen. And more to the point, most of the good ones are at least 5 years old. I'm not saying that makes them poor, it doesn't, just that we're talking about the current generation here. I think :).

Honestly I think you should get a Gamecube!

I just bought a PS2 and i'm also going to be getting a Gamecube aswell!

There's just loads of classic games coming out on the Gamecube that you just can't get anywhere else. Rogue Leader, Wave Race, Luigi, Mario, Zelda, Star Fox, Eternal Darkness, Resident Evil.....

Just go buy one mate. You WON'T be disappointed!

Console, schmonsole...

A PC is a real man's machine.

You like Star Wars? PC has Xwing, Tie Fighter, Xwing vs Tie Fighter, Rebel Assualt One and Two, Dark Forces, Dark Forces: Jedi Knight, Jedi Knight Two, Star Wars Battlegrounds, Starfighter, Naboo Starfighter, Rogue Squadron, Shadows of the Empire, and still more.

And you just think about consoles?

I give up, I really do.

Because it's you, ssxpro, I'll be honest with you. If Mario and zelda don't really appeal, there's little reason to buy one at the moment, as you probably wouldn't want Luigi's Mansion either. Any games that are also on the PS2, you'll no doubt buy on the PS2.

So if I were you, I'd wait till around Xmas, to see what's released by then, and what's around the corner.

Eternal Darkness might appeal to you, as might Too Human, but when that will be released, I don't know! Maybe you'd like to give ssx's rival a go, 1080's sequel will be out at some point.

Then there are the fun multiplayer titles. No one can resist Mario Kart, and the new Bomberman game promises to bring back the multiplayer to the standard of the SNES days, when it was best.

So yeah, wait for now, see if there will be games on the GCN that won't be on the PS2 that you'd like, wait for a special offer from a retailer, and it might be worth your while.
