I was considering buying the Sony MZG750 minidisc walkman redorder with built in radio and was wondering, can I record music from a hi-fi that does not have a minidisc player on it? If so, how does it work? Do you need a cable, and is one supplied?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

ye, optical/digital out...same thing.

I think Sony should still be giving them cables away with thier mini-discs. Should be fine.

I have a CD digital out (the square type). That won't be compatable with the cable, will it? If not, can I buy a different cable? Thanks.

With my Sony Minidisc they supplied a Optical cable.

Has you Hi-fi got a optical out? (it would have to be a pretty recent hi-fi.

Recording via the optical link means no loss of quality. The track stays in digital format.

ie. Do you get it free with the minidisc player or do you have to buy it? If so, how much and where from?

In a word, 'yes'. It doesn't matter what make it is, as long as it has that magic wire. I'm assuming you hifi has a headphone socket - you can use that, although you're meant to use something that comes out the back of the hifi.
