On the one side Bill Gates and Microsoft, nobody needs to be reminded just how much money this company has to spread across any table it so desires, on the other hand is the huge might of the Sony Corporation. Hoping to speed out of the pitstop and tuck neatly passed them both will be Nintendo, remember them? Ten years ago the undisputed king of home entertainment systems. They are fighting for you, your hands, your hearts and your money.
Last month, Microsoft launched the XBox, calling it 'the future of home video games'. Priced now at £199, from its original £299. It has already sold over 1.6million units in America and was expected to do equally as good over here, standing firmly in its way of that success finish line was and is the Playstation2 and on Thursday the Nintendo GameCube which is launching at an amazing £130. The video gaming market is the second biggest profit making market in the world (second to the film industry). Last year, us Brit's spent £1.6billion on home video games, thats aboout 51million games brought nearly one for every person in Britain.
Never before have three consoles co-existed in this country. I have heard many people on these forums say there will be no winner apart from us the gamers.
NO.
There 'will' be a winner, just that nobody knows who?!
Bill Gates convinced himself that he would launch the XBox to dominate the Japanese market, and that it would easily do this with his speech given about just how optimistic he was. It hasn't done that, infact, the original PSOne and even the GameBoy Colour is outselling the XBox weekly in Japan. However, with so much money there doesn't look like a place where Microsoft can come unstuck? The more they fail, they will pay till it turns into a success. What don't they have that Sony and Nintendo don't?
*ponders*
Me. Not just 'me'. You. The fans. They don't have me, they don't have you, a few of you have brought an XBox, given it a chance, and that is about the length of the sales since its launch. It launched in the three main markets with a Zero Number audience base. Gaming is about loyalty. Too many examples are too mention to support this, Metal Gear Solid 2, Mario and even one that every human I know has played Goldeneye. Playstation2 compared to Microsoft has a massive array of titles behind it. Nintendo is the only company to have made money in the market through hardware as well as software. The only company to consistently to make money, they have a sixteen year old heritage - Mario Brothers, Zelda, Donkey Kong and Fox McCloud.
Its all a long way from when I was a three year old having tantrums at not killing that last duck in DuckHunt. Even furthur a cry from when the best a gamer could hope for was a go and being a paddle and a ball in a tennis game.
Three-way fight. Technology, looks and loyalty.

You ain't touching the shop :P
Japanese have weird tastes anyway so I guess they are more distracted by their dating and train sims.
X-Box is notgoing to do as well as the Gamecube here in my opinion becase us Brits like some originality. And Nintendo will give us that, without a shadow of a doubt

IF YOU EVER DID THAT THEN....erm....
Please don't!

Not sure. I feel like a n00bie worker however I easily prove my knowledge where Nintendo is concerned. I need to memorise the bundle packs and everything and answering the phone is a nightmare.
'Hello, Game Wimbledon. We now take pre-orders of the GameCube. Joby speaking how can I help you?'
*shudders*
However, having said that, I walk around the shop looking at games. In my break I play games. I get a huge discount, and get paid!?
Yes. I would say its rather good.
P.S Super Monkey Ball rules more than any thing.

;0)
Seriously though, enjoying working there?

Person came up to me today for advice while I was working on the shopfloor.
'Mate, what console do you think I should get'
(My boss had told me by this point to put down the GameCube control and stop carrying it).
Anyways, we talked about the three consoles, and in the end he went away to the counter with a PS2 and MGS2 bundle. Why? He wanted a DVD playing one, with all the best games. Nothing more needed to be said.
I am beginning to become a little concerned that the X-Box will fail to completely enter the market... Not just from people buying the console, but developers really putting their best games on the console. To be fair, all that's going there at the moment are the same games that you can get on PS2, or PC.
And since the PS2 already has that hold on the market, why bother getting an X-Box? Well, I know someone knows. :0)

I wouldnt be too sure. Those who supported Sega dyed into their skin I believe would probably go for an XBox, just because they would hate Nintendo and Sony. However, if a Sonic and Mario game is released? What would happen then...
*hums*
