I would just like to say to savaat a big thank-you for making me what I know consider me to be.

A Hardcore gamer

The reason I say thankyou to him is because I was getting gradually impressed by the x-box bit by bit and instead of overloading my mind with loads of facts he give me his personal unbiased opinion and showed me the downside which I was fearing with the game cube In the end I got an x-box and its the most enjoyable console I have had since the mega drive thanks mate once again

Oh and Savaat wish me luck for my GAD attempt :)

I thought that the 56k modem is going to be released the same time as the Phantasy Star games on the GameCube? That's thanks to Sega mind. They managed to convince Nintendo to do the right thing.

It's got an expansion port at the bottom, so you never know that might happen yet!

Well, they were announced the same time the GameCube was revealed at Spaceworld 2000 (or was it the one before, can't remember)

That wasn't due to Nintendo of Europe. That was Square's doing.

May I point out that Lara Croft has had more than her fair share of games, as has Sonic, Crash Bandicoot, and even the Resident Evil series has grown bigger and bigger, yet no one complains?

Crappy characters? Again, Lara Croft attracts teenage males who need something to get off to, Crash Bandicoot is just so annoying, and look at Tails! I mean...Tails!

Dunno if you saw my post about it mate, but you might be interested to know that a certain title known as Streets Of Rage is apparently being brought to X-Box. ;-)

Still up for an all night Halo session tonight ? ;-))

I have to say the GC lost it's appeal to me when i found out the bodge job they're gunna do with online gaming.

the console should of had a HDD as this could of opened up so much in games, being able to get new features, extra level's and costumes it would of been great.

to me it seems that the dial up and broadband adapter for the GC was a last minute thought and sticking to memory cards is just a dumb idea.

they had a few games which made me think "cool might get one" and i almost brought an import version of the GC.

the thing i have against nintendo is really nintendo europe. they don't publish enough jap and american games here.

i remember when i had a Snes and i really wanted Mario RPG to come out here but did it the answer is no.

they are also bleeding the old crap as savatt pointed out, Mario ok it's like a mascot so i'll allow that one but i bet it won't be long till pokemon (i know i missed the thingy above the e but i don't give a damn) and oh look more platform games.

i think it must be my age as it seems mainly younger gamers (and girl gamers ;p) like nintendo and the crappy charecters.

i have a PS2 which i'm planning to keep and one day have an x box to sit beside it.

i'm a bit of a sega fan (R.I.P DC forever) and the sega titles look the mutz nutz on x box.

it's all a matter of taste realy.

i'm not the hardcore gamer i used to be but i still know a damn fine game when i see it and console. i'm not saying GC is complet cack i just don't want to invest in a console with 140 platform games ;)

70 games by the summer ? Which summer ? Cause looking at the Nintendo mags I certainly don't see 70 games on the way. Especially for as close a time as this summer.

GC has the same titles?

Yes it's got a lot of sequels for classic games but hell it's got a whole lot more than that. Try taking a look at Eternal Darkness, Pikmin, Metroid Prime, Luigi's Mansion, Kameo Elements of Power etc etc, infact I can't be bothered with a list it's your opinion and i'm not gonna try and change it. But to say the GC has games coming out as quickly as the N64 did is a lickle bit silly me thinks.

Try 70 games by summer, multiply that figure by 2 and you have the full N64 line-up.

I'm not saying your not a hardcore gamer. As for your wondering why Silent85 thinks he is now, well you pretty much answered it yourself.

He's found the console that makes him want to play constantly rather than casually. He's playing the games that pull him into the storylines and he's playing the console that makes him want to keep well up to date with news of new releases.

Just wondering, how does listening to all that, and following your adcive make silent85 a harcore gamer?

You can be a hardcore gamer if you just have a Game Boy! A hardcore gamer doesn't necessarily mean you'll play a certain console. A hardcore gamer is one stage further from a casual gamer who plays for the odd bit of fun. A hardcore gamer plays for more than just a bit of fun. A hardcore gamer plays for entertainment, excitement, to feel emotional about the plots, storylines and characters and tries to keep up to date with games news if possible so as to have an idea what game(s) and console(s) to get next.

I can't afford an X-box and a GameCube, and I've already made my decision, but that does not make me less of a 'hardcore gamer'.

Ok, basically my view with Nintendo at the moment is that they are more than happy to just do the same thing they always do. Basically they bring out a console, dump the same games on it (Mario, Zelda, etc) and have little intention of giving the console much potential.

The X-Box on the other hand is better in the way that it goes beyond this "lets just release the old stuff with prettier graphics". Developers have a chance to make games with new elements to them.
The console will be getting games that just can't be done (i.e Project Ego) on other consoles. Its always nice to see the new graphics when you get a new console, but lets face it, its not long before you start expecting it and the novelty wears off. But because of the X-Box's capabilities with its hard drive, developers can continue to impress with new ideas in their games.

If we hadn't seen Mario since the time of say the SNES, then an appearance on GC now would be a much bigger thing. But the fact is that he's appeared on every Nintendo console. Of course he sells so Nintendo are gonna flog a cow for all they can. But because you seem at every level of improvement, there isn't all that much to impress now. Look at Mario Sunshine, prettier graphics no doubt about it and Mario has a backpack. But to me, its Mario 64 in new wrapping.

I've owned all the major Nintendo consoles in the past, but this one isn't really showing me any real reason to get it. The X-Box shows ambition to give you more than the usual gaming experience and offers different games to suit all different people. Nintendo just seem to be mostly sticking to games that appeal to a limited audience.
Of course Miyamoto doesn't like online gaming all that much, but this has its merits as a lot of players are very competitive and want to play against more people than the friends they see everyday or weekend. Not just this, but games such as RPG's online can be fun too as your able to work with other people to achieve things. I've played online both in competitive and co-operative situations and I've had some great moments through playing this way.

Of course online play isn't for everyone and they don't have to do it, but the option is there. The X-Box can be networked through a LAN to also offer some excellent multiplayers, another thing the Gamecube can't do.
About the most impressive thing I've seen with the Gamecube to offer a different kind of experience is the ability to link the GBA to the console. But like I said, other than that, Nintendo seem quite happy to throw out another N64 with prettier graphics capabilities. Just looking at the line up of games, it doesn't look to be coming in with them any faster than the N64 before it.

Some will shout quality over quantity, but then when a lot of games are going to attract more of a limited audience, can Nintendo really get away with this again ? I'm not saying just chuck out any old crap, but you need a good number of various titles to keep the people happy.
In my opinion, the only reason Nintendo aren't in Sega's shoes is thanks to Rare and Pokemon. If Rare go multi-platform I think Nintendo will be in a lot of trouble because Pokemon has had its time and now it'll just be another Mario or Zelda. Pikimin and Luigi's Mansion are new ideas, but they're not going to be enough to keep the GC around.

Even PS2 is showing some ambition with its online capabilities and hard drive. I didn't get an X-Box because I'm some biased Microsoft lover, I bought it because its a damn fine console and the company behind it is trying to come up with new things to give us games that we've never been able to experience before and evolve aspects of the things we have seen.

The Gamecube console is nice and cheap yes, but Nintendo aren't stupid and there is a little hidden cost and thats namely the memory cards. £15 ? Bah, nothing right ? Now think of the fact that its got very low space to store game saves on and you'll soon be working through a few. I saw a game save in a mag that looked like Resident Evil (guessing that cause its a pic of an eye, very similar to the pic for the PS1 version save). This save took up just over one third of the memory card. This isn't very impressive when matched with the space of the X-Box hard drive. Just one memory card makes GC just £15 cheaper than an X-Box now.

But even if X-Box was still £300, I'd still prefer it just for the points I made earlier about its ambitions. Thats what I told Silent85 and thats my opinion to anyone. Mario is a good character and I've enjoyed Zelda games in the past, but I don't want to spend years to come playing the same games over and over again.
