Hey, even though it's £199 now, some people still will get Playstation 2 instead. Those you might call casual gamers, when they realise you need to shell out more for a DVD remote to get the Xbox to play DVDs might think it's complicated or something, and go for the PS2 thinking it's the simple option.

Then again, they should be thinking about the games, not extras.

They hope to gain backwards compatability! The PS2 uses the same i/o controller as the PS1, IE. it only has two ports! If it had 4 they'd have to rewrite the interface for the PlayStation emulator, and less games would work properly. Besides, with a PS2 you can have 8 players, so ner.

I'm not sure what Sony hope to gain from not letting the PS2 have 4 controller ports straight out of the box.

It's not a console wars thread. Just pointing out that having to buy an 'extra' to play DVD's will make stupid people scratch their head, and say "I'll have a Playstation 2 then."

I'm not sure what Microsoft hoped to gain from not letting the Xbox play DVD's straight out of the box.

I also wont get an X-Box if the price drops because i pefer to have a gamecube cheaper than the x-box even with the price drop and nintendo make alotof good games like Zelda.

Plus i believe that the x-box won't be around for long

I too would sooner buy chocolate than an Xbox, but that's because I have little money.

If you were offering me an Xbox or a chocolate bar I'd take the Xbox.
