Someone said to you:

"If you press this button, you will achieve your lifes goal. I.e If you want to be a doctor, you will be, if you want to be a games designer you will be. If you want to be rich you will be etc.

But, every time you press that button, 1,000,000 people you've never met will die."

What would you do?

Its a bit hard to answer this question since it will 'Never Happen'.

I don't see how you expect to get any kind of answer here because we need to be in this situation to understand fully the consequences of what pressing this button will do.

I'd probably kill a woodlouse, I kill them anyway, but never something like a cat, dog, rabbit or even a hamster.

I honestly think that if I couldn't see the results or the repuyrcusions of my actions, I would be tempted to press the button - out of sight out of mind and all that.

Maybe that makes me a shallow evil being.

But as I'll never have the chance to press a button like that, I'll never know whether I could do it or not.

If you see what I mean...

A few of you have said this, so here's my take on it:

Getting the job is not the end, not the final achievement. If the button magically made you something like, say, a games designer, then you will achieve something each and every time another title of yours is released. To say it's not worth having the job if you didn't work to get there is only saying that you need to convince yourself you deserve it.

You make achievements doing the job, not just getting to it. If you get the headstart in any may, you shouldn't feel undeserving, you should be looking forward to the next goal instead, because if it's achievement that drives you on, there will always be one. It's all about the thrill of the chase, because the grass is always greener on the other side.

How about if you didn't know that it had happened, that might pose a few questions? But still, nah.

MAybe I didn't phrase it quite right.

Want I wanted to know was that if you had th eopportunity to get all that you ever wanted, by killing some people, would you do it IF:

The people were the other side of the world.

If you can't see them, or their families, or the result of your actions, would you still do it?

Trying to explain:

If you don't see the results of your actions, didn't have to accept the responsibility of what you've done, would you do it?

A million people? No, of course not. That's as bad as genocide... few people could live with themselves doing something like that. Everyone is going to say no. We learn nothing from that, and we expect it.

One person. There's the test. Do you have what it takes to kill someone? For personal pleasure maybe not... but then, you always have to draw the line somewhere...

What about a million animals? Could you do that? If so, where's the difference? An animal lives, breathes, feels, dies. Just like you.

Maybe less animals then? Maybe dumber animals?

Could you kill one woodlouse if it would give you all that you wanted?

One woodlouse... a millions humans.

Where in between do you draw the line?
