For we will have Luigi's Mansion, and the Xbox and PS2 have nothing to compare with it. Jak and Daxter? That's SO Banjo Kazooie! Hello, last generation 3D adventure anyone? Oddworld Munch's Oddysee then? Don't make me laugh! Luigi's Mansion may be a short game (some might even say it's as short as Metal Gear Solid 2) but it's something a bit different, isn't it? I don't see any Xbox or PS2 owners looking forward to waving a torch at ghosts and sucking them up with a vacuum cleaner, do you?
When it comes to this type of game, Nintendo simply have no competition. They keep on pushing the bench mark, so if some one else wants to develop this type of 3D adventure game, it's not going to match up to what Nintendo offer. You don't believe me? Has any other console had a game to match Super mario 64 yet? No, and that's 5 years old.
What about the adventure RPG hybrid game that we all know as Zelda, anything out there to match that? Again, no, we have the true RPG's, such as the Final Fantasy's but they lack in the action, and we have the adventures, but they don't match Zelda in terms of character progression and quests. The only game that looks set to follow in it's footsteps is Star Fox Adventures, but that's being developed by a Nintendo 2nd party anyway, and has evolved to feature plenty of traditional shooting levels too.
Those copycat kart racers keep on flying out of developers doors, don't they! We've even had Muppet's karting away. We'll I'm sure you all know that there's a new Mario Kart on the way, and no doubt it will go beyond all we've seen before. It won't just be another novelty racer, like the previous installments, and all of the imitators, it'll have plenty of innovations about it. And in 3 years time we'll still see games copying that on multiformat shelves.
But the thing is, for Nintendo's games, there's no competition.
Luigi's Mansion / Mario Sunshine, which developer will bring a game like this to the Xbox or PS2?
Mario Kart / Donkey Kong Racing, you really think anyone will be able to beat that?
Star Fox Adventures / New Zelda, no contest.
Developers don't even try to beat them, they just take from it, and rather than trying to innovate themselves, produce an inferior version.
You like this type of game? Either you buy a Gamecube, or you play Rayman.
If you like realistic racers and beat em-up's on the other hand, choose between a PS2 and an Xbox.
Yup. I do find X-Box and PS2 to be carbon copies of eachother... and Nintendo to be of a very certain taste. But you either love it or hate it, don't you?
It's all in the mind, I'm sure.
Meka knows it, Strafex knows it, I know it... everyone knows it... It's a fact... GameCube rules... and when it comes... PS2 owners (who don't also own a Cube) will be crying... so with the X-Box owners (who don't also own a Cube)... because Nintendo is Gaming.
So there! :-P
Sure the Xbox might get Halo.
But the Gamecube has plenty of "almost as good as, if not better than" FPS's on the way in the form of Turok (I know it's multiformat but it's still an FPS that GC players can play) and Die Hard.
Meanwhile, the Gamecube is the only one getting the multiplayer likes of Monkey Ball, Soccer Slam, Smash Brothers and Mario Kart.
I suppose that some people don't care for the cartoony look of those games though...
