The "General Games Chat" forum, which includes Retro Game Reviews, has been archived and is now read-only. You cannot post here or create a new thread or review on this forum.
I read Grix's 'I have no love for the forum anymore' topic and whilst finding myself agreeing with most of what was said, something was missing. I am still a relative newcomer to this site, and I would like to put forward a point of view that seems to have been forgotten.
With all the talk of a forum dedicated to the people that used to make the forums a special place, I am worried that there won't be oportunities for others, like myself, who don't spam, don't post unneccessary topics, and don't clog up the forums. I for one have always tried to post properly, try and encourage and debate and put forward thought provoking opinions (as hopefully some of you will have seen if you've read my posts) yet I feel like, because I am a relative newcomer to the site, I am being included with the new 'lot' that have ruined the forums.
Don't get me wrong, I am not disputing the fact that FOG has been ruined (because it undoubtedly has) or that you guys don't dserve to be notables or haven't made the forums a great place (because again you undoubtedly have), its just that there are people out there that want to talk about games, have discussion, and have a laugh. I am 18 and don't want to get into mindless 'PS2 is crap' topics - I just want to post and most of all, have fun. I just hope some of you recognise that amidst the mire of mediocrity we currently preside in.

Heh, Chat and Prime used to be one forum, absolutely massive it was. But Tony decided to split it so that crap topics wouldn't pollute the decent ones (As, back then, all the regulars/notables were posting properly and quite regularly). I have to say, I think it's better the way it is. We complain about FOG chat being spammed and overcrowded, but really, it IS just a chat forum, not a serious one.
my identity crisis is now pretty much over, despite having pestered sr to give me my name and proper daycount back with little success. I have found the next best thing by violating myself and visiting a french website i piked one of their french past tense e's to give me something that resembles my old name so i don't have to have stupid numbers in my name (a5h1ey). now to pester sr to give me my daycount back.

I'd personally like to see the forums torn down and started again. No stats or anything, no status, no nothing, just plain posting. Put it back to the way it was. Trouble is, getting a forum started is quite a hard job, but with the masses of people who seem to have arrived and then disappeared while I wait for replies it shouldn't be hard. Pity I know it will never happen really.
Time for a forum facelift me-thinks.
So you'd rather see Chat abolished and Prime the only forum for games on a whole, not split into genres? No seperate forum? Its been something people have asked for, for a long time and its not something I see happening, but its a thought SR should keep in mind.
I would like to advocate a 'General forum, where people could just chat about anything. Its an idea I would like to see SR bring to fruition.
I have to say its quite interesting that I have had to wait so long to see if anyone would pop another topic above this or reply to it. Used to be a case of refreshing...

The problem with a new forum like that is that we all like to "chat" with each other and we don't want to be stuck having "conversations" about games all the time. If that happened the place would be boring as. No one really would want to be forced to post in somewhere like Prime all the time because it can get a bit dull if your not in the right mood. Okay chat is basically spam, but some peoples conversations are actually interesting, its just certain people who can't actually talk without spamming or talking nonsense.
A new forum would be good, but I feel it would be contradicting what it stands for. IF this new forums for the "elite" was made I know people would chat in it, kind of doing the opposite of what it stands for, or maybe its just me not realising what this forum actually wants now. Is it a place to talk about games, pure? Or is it a place where you can have an intelligent conversation with interesting people while at the same time talking about what I guess is something you enjoy, gaming?
