So, the Gamecube is compatable with Broadband and Modem adaptors, but it seems that Nintendo have no real plans.
Judging with their quotes, it seems to me that they're just being pedantic and awkward.
First they were saying about profit.
Fair enough, you'd think, so why not make cash out of putting adverts up.
You select the option to go online and an advert comes up for you to stare at while the modem connects to the server...
Or other advertising along those lines...
If it was JUST a matter of profit, they'd have eventually worked out a plan, but newer quotes seem to confirm that they're just being silly now.
"Think about this. If we make a game online, only the people who have bought a modem can play it wheras it we keep it offline, ALL gamecube owners can play it."
That's just pedantic. Nintendo, you are not meant to make the game EXCLUSIVELY ONLINE straight from the word go, because that WOULD be unprofitable.
Don't they understand is that all we want is a standard multiplayer game with the OPTION to go online.
Sega know EXACTLY what to do.
Make the game 4 player splitscreen offline and give the option to be online if players desire.
That's why Phantasy Star Online will be bought by both online and offline players.
What Nintendo need to realise it that we're not too fussed about some big giant plan for a grand online RPG that they don't want to have to make.
All we want is to race F-Zero against people across the country and across the world.
I want to be able show the PS2 and Xbox owners who's boss on Turok Evolution.
Is it too much to ask for the chance too shoot Grix in the head on Perfect Dark without having to go all the way to Wales?!?!?
Nintendo please! Stop trying to jump in the deep end and bailing out at the last minute!
Test the water at the shallow end with existing multiplayer games to get your gamers online...
Then, as you gain confidence you can go for the deeper more complex stuff like a grand RPG.
Otherwise you'll never get anything done and just get left behind...

It will be good in the US because loads of people have cable internet over there. But when we get to England and our modems, the word ping comes to mind. All games that you play at the same time are crap with a modem, Quake 3 for example, you shoot and it takes half a second to get to the server to shoot. By which time the person in the US has moved, shot and killed you.
The only good games with modems are ones where you take turns. Worms is a great game to play witha modem because no matter what your ping is, you still get to the server and nothing would have happened in that second or so, it just plays like normal.

yes , nintendo will most definatley charge for online gaming , but i probably wont use it , as it is really slow without broadband.

Or, Nintendo should stop trying to kid themselves full-stop, and avoid the on-line issue alltogether. Stuff what SEGA says, they don't rule the world ya' know.
None of these three current consoles is going to do very well with on-line gaming. PCs have been trying on-line gaming for years now, and still it is comparatively pants.
I'd rather buy four Gamecubes, four TVs, and link them up in four seperate rooms than play on-line, cos' it really sucks (look at the Dreamcast).

I knew about the price increase on AOL but will Nintendo charge for the internet games or what ?
actually bigman , after may 2nd , you will be paying £15.99 a month for your unlimited internet with AOL (juts thought i'd let you know.)
as for the thing about using your AOL online subscription for the gamecube , from start will be very very very slim indeed , as nintendo wont make any money , as with the dreamcast , you had to pay sega for subscription or go on pay as you go.
Now on dreamcast , you can use your own service provider , but only because the dreamcast has ceased production, so instead of sega losing money by keeping their servers going they now just let you use your own isp , so you can continue to go online.

I don't know about you but my family are on AOL, we get charged £15 a month and we get unlimited acess to the net.

it dosent really put the price of the console up , because you have to buy the modem (in most cases) separatley , but in the long run , you will be paying more for your gaming needs , call charges , monthly subscription etc.
I really don't like online gaming. Especially if its going to put the price of consoles up.
I reckon the price will be about £30 and as for the call charges, well, they will have to be reasonable for people to acctually spend time on there, or they could probably charge you something like £15 per month with unlimited access.
I see your point because Phantsy Star Online will have a four player mode which could be good ! The only thing I want to know is how much will the modem cost and want about internet charges etc ?
