Last week's hardware sales figures from Japan show what a lean time the Xbox is having in that most critical of markets, with around 4,000 consoles sold, compared to approximately 25,000 for the Gamecube and over 100,000 for PS2.
The total number of consoles sold in Japan currently stands at 4.05m for PS2, 1.29m for Gamecube, and 0.19m for Xbox, with figures for Microsoft's machine showing a heavy decline since its Feb 22nd launch.
Microsoft watchers hope for a swift price cut to boost the flagging console - Xbox currently costs £184 in Japan, with PS2 weighing in at £157 and Gamecube at £132. A move to undercut the rival consoles is expected to help drive sales figures.

A few Japanese consoles were found to scratch the edges of discs... far less than the number of PS2 that failed at launch though...
