Last week's hardware sales figures from Japan show what a lean time the Xbox is having in that most critical of markets, with around 4,000 consoles sold, compared to approximately 25,000 for the Gamecube and over 100,000 for PS2.
The total number of consoles sold in Japan currently stands at 4.05m for PS2, 1.29m for Gamecube, and 0.19m for Xbox, with figures for Microsoft's machine showing a heavy decline since its Feb 22nd launch.
Microsoft watchers hope for a swift price cut to boost the flagging console - Xbox currently costs £184 in Japan, with PS2 weighing in at £157 and Gamecube at £132. A move to undercut the rival consoles is expected to help drive sales figures.
mwaaaaaaaaaaaaa ha ha
die MS
I agree. You can't make a console a sucess by pumping money into it. No matter how much money that happens to be.
The Xbox will continue to do well in the USA but i can't see it becoming the "thing" in japan. For one its HUGE and alot of japense people wouldn't have room for it. Another point is its microsoft and american. The japenese most likly prefer their own home grown companies (sony, nintendo)

Well ahead? Did he say well ahead? The fool!

Gates could buy Sony if it starts to occur to him.
No he couldn't. It wouldn't be allowed.
Obviously, Microsoft will continue to pump money into the XBox, however I feel courtcases leading to the similar 'monopolising' merger will take place if they did.

The problem that I can see with the X-Box is the Japanease market which microsoft have failed to break. I remain divided on this, as it could mean the X-Box flops due to lack of origanal titles. On the other hand it could succeed because as you said sonic, the games would be far more realistic than eastern developed titles, and that suits hardcore gamers more.
I'll just have to wait and see how everything goes. In about a year should be a good time to see who out of Microsoft and Nintendo are winning in the console wars, and then decide whether or not to invest into one of these new consoles.

Sorry! Only the first bit of my post was in response to you- the rest was just general.
Anyway, suffice it to say the console is FAR from becoming a Dreamcast. Japanese sales are terrible, but American sales are well ahead of The Gamecube- despite the price difference.
Don't expect more original games- most original games come from Japan, and the Xbox simply won't get support from developers there due to the Japanese launch.
If, however, you just want "western" games (realistic style, FPS etc) then that's what the Xbox is aimed at. It *should* get some top sports games too thanks to EA being an American company.

What would be wrong

er, nothing. I said it 'may' end up like the dreamcast, and if it does become the greatest console on Earth then the chances are I'll own one, but until then I'll wait to see how well it does over the coming months.
X-Box probably will too
Hopefully the Cube won't suffer these problems but if it does, it should recover too

What would be wrong with it becoming the next greatest console of all time, eh?
