A game that is mature not because of gore, but because of the complexity of the story.
Yes it's full of zombies, but I'll tell you this, you won't progress far if you hope to simply go around blasting things.
During the game you play as 12 different characters, each through a differnet era. On a basic level this keeps the game fresh, as each character has different weapons, different quests, and different magic. And each character is integral to the development of the game, and of the story.
What's got my attention is a description of one of the puzzles. The answer is right in front of you during the game, you just have to be observant to spot it. Apparently much of the game is like this, with everything you see being there for a reason. If there's a painting on the wall you'd better have a good look at it, as it could well give you important clues as to what's coming up.
So not only does the game offer gameplay like never seen before on a Nintendo console, it ilso introduces a sanity system. The horrific events you encounter could well drive you over the edge and you might start seeing blood dripping from the walls, or something. It has been said that sometimes you play this game, but sometimes it plays you, and that interests me.
Of course, these days a game without great graphics won't go far, and ED certainly has stunning graphics, SR have got some screen shots, just check out the news story. The thing about the graphics, and the attention to detail in the game is that it's not just eye candy, it all serves a purpose.
This game is still shrouded in secrecy, but at Nintendo's Gamers' Summit an almost final version of the game was played, and this is the only time the game will be played in this state until it's release in the USA in June.
I can't wait for his game to come out over here, and it's going to be really tough to avoid all of the spoilers. I've read just enough to get me really into the concept of the game, but don't want to know any more, I don't want to dull the effect for when I get to play it, but I think we'll be saying goodbye to the summer before we say an apprehensive hello to Eternal Darkess.
I can't wait to see some new shots n footage. Well actually I can't wait till I get my mits on it!
:)
